I just got the HP laser mini mouse and I am not impressed, actually I hate it. link
With my optical mouse I could just use a notebook or a magazine as a mousepad; the HP laser mouse is not even working as well as my optical mouse on my wooden desk. It seems to be working perfectly ONLY on glossy or very smooth surfaces, but unlike the cheap optical mouse, it doesn't do too well on not so smooth surfaces. Also, my optical mouse could work on black surfaces, unlike the HP mouse.
So my question is, is this a normal behavior, is it just the HP mouse, or did I receive a damaged mouse?

i prefer logitech optical/laser mice. some people prefer microsoft laser mice. afaik, you can't go wrong with either one. i've had hp mice before but they were roller ball types. suitable back in the day but there's no going back.

I am loving my new laser mouse - it's the Logitech VX Revolution and it's working on any surface I've put it on flawlessly. I've put it on an all black notebook cover, all black notebook case (canvas material), multicolored book, woodgrain desk, my black gel wristpad...basically, just about anything I can move it on! It has definitely become my mouse of choice.
It was replacing the Kensington Optical Wireless Pocketmouse which has a hard time on any surface other than a white piece of paper.
Sounds like you should look into getting a new mouse! -
A good laser mouse should work on practically any surface.

I just bought the Razer Lachesis, it works on any surface ive tried it on so far. Gotta get used to the design - been using a cheapo Dell generic mouse for the last 2 years (not much gaming for me)... Should change when i receive my m15x tomorrow though!

Lachesis is too big for a notebook mouse.
Try out Targus's notebook mouse.. it has 5 buttons & 800 DPI... enough for mobile gaming. -
My laser mouse works on anything, even on the mesh covering my speakers. I was under the impression that laser mice were the most versatile when it came to tracking.

They should work on any surface but glass.

hehe if u want it to work on glass then get a Ball mouse.
i am not sure if they make'em anymore
? about laser mice and surfaces
