I am wanting to get a mouse for my Compaq Presario 2100. I was just going to order one, but noticed it said you must have a USB port. What is this & how will I know if I have it? Sorry, I have no clue about PC's.[:I] Is a USB port necessary for notebooks and all mouses? I really am stupid about what this is. Can you recommend a good, but cheaper one. Thanks so much.

Ok. I think I figured out what a USB port is. Now, is it okay to buy a regular mouse, not wireless for a notebook?

You can buy whatever you want, but if you're on a budget I'd pass on wireless. The better ones are expensive.

Your notebook certainly would have what's called a USB port on it, for $14 you can buy a Microsoft Optical mouse (with wire)

It's a great mouse for a great price.

I have the Microsoft Mini Optical Mouse for my Thinkpad. The USB ports are on the left side, so after you run the cord behind it, it is in the perfect posistion. If you are right handed of course.

I treated my fabulous new Fujitsu S6231 to a Logitech V500 wireless, optical mouse ($55). It is very sleek and stylish and has a touchpad scroller on top. The right and left buttons are really not buttons at all, but extensions of the top cover (very cool). The rear of the mouse can be angled up for a better feel. The optical section is designed for "rough terrain" or use without a mousepad. It glides effortlessly on various surfaces. The USB receiver tucks away inside the mouse itself and the unit turns on or off with a switch underneath. (2) AAA batteries and a nifty little zippered carry case are included. The V500 works exceedingly well in all aspects. I wouldn't leave home without it! Regards, Ace [8D]
