I've been doing some electronics rearranging in my house and my former computer monitor ( Samsung LN-S3251D) is our main TV. 32" is just TOO big when you're sitting 2.5-3ft away, especially with resolution at 1360x768.

So, in addition to my upcoming HP 8510p and building a new, liquid-cooled desktop within a month or two, I've decided to get a new LCD monitor.

I'd like something in the 21-22" range since that seems to be the current sweet spot for performance/price. I'd also like a variety of inputs (because I drool over multifunction capability) and preferably no internal speakers.

Budget is ~$400, +/- $100. It will be used primarily for work, possibly as a TV if the monitor is capable, and gaming. I'd like a native 1680x1050 resolution.

I've been partial to Samsung's and Dells, but have heard good things about BenQ and Viewsonic. It seems most all of these computer monitors are DVI/D-Sub(VGA) but was hoping maybe some of you out there had experience with others, or can tell me that I don't need extra connections....

Do you have the T61 hooked up via VGA? If so, how is the picture quality?

    Hey now...that is blatant hi-jacking! :D

It seems the 226BW is incredibly hard to find as an "S" panel...any ideas on where to find one?

Fry's has the 22" Viewsonic for $299 and the 22" NEC for $319.

How's this for a find: I walked into Best Buy and looked at the Samsung 226BW. The display model was an "A" panel. I told the sales guy about the different panels and explained that I was looking for an "S", but would take an "A" panel. He offered to open a couple boxes so we could check. So I grabbed the top off the pile, open it up, and BAM! An "S" panel on the first try! I figured that was a sign so I bought it on the spot, $350+tax. Not bad for a day's work.

Why do you need 24inch to play blu-ray at full resolution?

Because the resolution for "full" HD (1080p) is 1920x1080. Every 22" monitor I've seen tops out at 1680x1050, so 1080p will downscale during playback.

Of course, going up to a 24" WUXGA monitor will cost quite a bit more...
