Hello folks....i know this topic has been beaten to death...BUT

i need some help purchasing a mouse. i am very picky when it comes to mice and i have not been able to find a better keyboard companion like the logitech mx518. this is absolutely the best mouse on planet earth! i love it to death, as it is very comfortable and ergonomic for my hands. so here comes my question.....

Ill be getting a laptop soon and i need to purchase a wireless mouse to use with ma lappy because I HATE trackpads. Now, as i stated earlier i love the mx518, but to my knowledge, logitech does not make that model in a wireless form. I would like to find a mouse that is as close as possible to the MX518 in the following respects:

    1. Shape/Form
    2. Performance
    3. Quality/Durability/Build Material
    4. Wireless!!!!!

Prefer to use the AA or AA battery type rather than the rechargeable lithium one's found in many such as the G7 because i just rather not have to charge batteries after heavy use. I also do some gaming from time to time just fyi.

I have yet to find one to my liking and im going nutz considering if i should just haul a MX518 around even it i have to deal with the wire. I am that desperate..lol

anyways, sorry for the long post and thanx for the help guys!! keep em coming...

MX620 would probably be the mouse for you if you don't like the G7, Wireless Laser 5000 from MS might be acceptable, but I'd say the MX620 would be the way to go for the form factor and features you want, I dunno how big the receiver is though as its technically a desktop mouse, it does use batteries so it shouldn't have a big charging cradle or anything ridiculous. I also love my MX518 but I hate the cord, I bought it when I was super into Counter Strike Source and wanted a hard core corded mouse for that.

thanx big mike. i saw had previously seen the G7, and its almost identical to the mx518, but logitech had to go with the stupid rechargeable battery. It would have been the perfect mouse. I have mixed feeelings about the mx620, but i guess ill have to give it a try.

If you can find them on display that's the best way to check them out, you might also look at the LX8, looks like it might fit your needs.

Have you looked into the Vx Revolution? It is going to be a bit smaller than the 518. I was going to suggest the MX Revolution but it has the non removable Li-ion battery that you don't want.

just a small FYI on high-grade wireless mice:

    - Logitech G7: wireless version of G5, very similar in shape to mx518.
    - MS Sidewinder X8: can be used wired and wireless. follows the design ideas of MS, which are decidedly different from Logitech's. still, should be very comfortable to use.
    - Razer Mamba: another mouse that can be used wired and wireless. typical Razer shape, suitable for clawgrippers only. will hold the world record for production mice in terms of DPI when it comes out.

i'm afraid all three use rechargable Li-Ion batteries - more efficient than standard AA batteries. i think it'll become progressively harder to find mice that use standard AA(A) batteries, so i'd suggest the G7. the other two won't be out for a few more weeks, and will cost close to (or more than) 100$.

Take a look at the Logitech VX revolution or MX1100. The VX revolution is smaller, but it's very comfortable. The downside is that it's fixed at 800 DPI.

The MX1100 is actually a desktop mouse, but it has a smallish USB adapter (about the size of your average flash drive) and it takes AA batteries. It's 1600 DPI and it's adjustable.
