i was thinking about buying a north face recon to use for school and also to put my laptop in the bag.

From what i heard there is a laptop compartment, does anybody know how big that compartment is like would it fit a 15.4 inch screen laptop.

I don't have a laptop yet but i was planning to get the bag. If a 15.4 inch can fit into it fine ill just get a 15.4 inch instead.

I really don't want to be carrying another bag for the laptop its kind of inconvient for me.

I don't think there are any owners here, at least not that I've seen post on this bag. You might need to contact support to see if they know.

I have a Recon, but I got it a few years ago, so I don't know if the demensions have changed lately. It's a nice bag. I don't own a 15" laptop, but I can tell you that my old Dell Latitude c600 with a 14.1" screen fits in the bag, but it is a tight squeeze. The problem is at the top of the bag as it tapers.

Like Brian said, I would maybe call The North Face company and see if they can give you some dimensions to work with.

I recently purchased a North Face Borealis backpack. I purchased it because I needed something that would fit my Asus V6V. The V6V has a 15 inch screen and it definitely fits in the laptop compartment. The top is a little of a squeeze if you decide to keep your laptop in a sleeve and then place it in the compartment.

I highly recommend this North Face backpack as the padding on the shoulder straps and on the back of the backpack is excellent.

i also was looking at the recon, but for the dell i9300. the measurents of the dell are :
    Height: 1.6-inches (41.5 mm)
    Bullet Width: 15.5-inches (394 mm)
    Bullet Depth: 11.3-inches (287 mm)

the recon is 19" x 13" x 8" so technically it should fit. but again, it's round at the top.

do any of the north face backpacks fit the 9300? already emailed north face, just wondering if anyone knows off hand.

just to let you guys know, i tested the recon at sportsmart and sportschalet. I found that my DV4000 fits perfectly and perfectly i mean anything larger won't. Even if you could squeeze a slightly larger laptop into the compartment on the Recon II, it'll be such a pain trying to get in and out that it might not be worth forcing. My recommendations are look for larger pack if laptop is any larger than my DV4000.

    354 x 273 x 22-34 (mm) for my Z70Va off the global asus website

I contacted North Face and a lady over there said it will do fine.

I asked for specific dimensions and she didn't reply back. That @#$$%#%@#%@~!~!~!

I should be fine though ahha, since the dimensions are similar to the dv4000 you have asdf.

fth...I'm not too sure if yours will fit since asdf said his is a tight fit and mine is a bit deeper than his. Yours is even deeper. Maybe it will we'll have to wait for north face to reply to you.

    Cheers,
    Mike
