hi. i have a canon printer (mp530) and something perplexes me.
i only print in black and white.. yet all my color cartridges go down. why is this? i have yellow, magenta, and blue i think.

because the cartridge utility uses a simple system to determine how much ink is in your cartridges and cant determine colours from black

Hi, i have an MP460---does it take different cardridges for each color?

But right now, I am using my mp500 as B&W printer, with (thankfully) cheap black ink, even though 2 of my color cartridges have been empty for a while. -
i would suspect that your printer is using all three color colors combined to create black?
-
I have a i560 or something like that. Usually, don't print in color, but have to change color ink once 1 or 2 months. Canons suck because of this get another brand.

i use the newer style hp office jet system. this uses 3 color and i black cartridge you are supposed to be able to print 2800 color and 1500-1800 color pages and to be honest i believe it. i have printed HUNDREDS of black documents and made numerous copies and i still have more than half the catridge left. the only ONE downfall to this printer is the color ink is not waterproof. so if you print a picture with it which imo come out very very nice for what this printer is designed for overall.... and get it wet later the ink will smear. other than that we LOVE LOVE LOVE this printer. and its crazy fast when printing honestly its as fast as my black laser printer at my office seriously its really that fast

BTW, if you only print in black, a laser might be a better choice for you.
anyone have a CANON printer?
