I am trying to save money on a phone bill so I'm looking for programs such as skype. Skype looks like a great offer, with unlimited calling out for 30 dollars a year, but am wondering if there is anything other than skype that people prefer for this kinda stuff.

you will be tethered to your pc if you choose to use it.

plus, people will probably call you sometimes.

cell phones are great if you can afford it.

i don't know what else to tell you. phone / data plans suck.

Is Vonage still alive? I guess it is, although it is much more expensive, it isn't tethered to your computer, just your broadband modem. I think they charge 25 bucks a month for unlimited local and long distance.

$30/year isn't too bad. Does that include calls to cellular phones and long-distance? I might sign myself up for that.

its 30/year for calls anywhere in the us and canada including cell phones, but its only for calling out. You also get computer to computer calling for free (without buying anything) both ways. If you want to be able to receive calls from phones to your computer you have to pay 60 more dollars. You can buy a phone from skype that lets you use it in any wifi spot instead of a computer, but their cheapest one is ~100 dollars, so if you want to have it replace a land line it will cost you 90 dollars/year and 100 dollars for the phone. Oh and only the special skype phones work for the wifi.

I think i am going to get the 30 dollar skype deal, and just use my prepay cell phone as a pager, that way i can stay away from monthly payments and save some cash in college.
