I'm looking for a new backpack for my 14" thinkpad. However, I have other features necessary, and not having much luck tracking something down.

I commute on a motorcycle, at night, so I am looking mainly at something that would be suitable for that, as well as not having an over-large notebook compartment (I have a targus back designed for 15.4" at the moment, and I hate how it flops around)

    Main criteria

    -Reflective\Bright colored back
    -smallish notebook compartment
-room for textbooks, though only a couple
    -not black (see #1)

I was thinking about going for the targus grove sling, and finding reflective material to apply to the back, but that is slightly 'meh'

If anyone has a suggestion, though, would love to hear it.

Booq may or may not be a little big. I have a Python and its a beast, HOWEVER with both chest and waist straps, it has great support. The other bags I was looking at were crumplers, but I cannot comment on thier support.

Honestly, I am in the sub-$100 range, unfortunately.

Suppose I should have added that to initial post.

I used the MobileEdge Premium. It's probably the perfect bag for you. As for me, I wish it was thinner and water resistant. Mine is black, but they come in other colors. I believe I paid around $60.

I also ride a motorcycle. I like that it doesn't have lots of flaps to whip around, it has the flap which provides additional security in case you accidentally forget to zip something up, and the zippers don't go all the way down which adds a measure of safety should the zipper ever fail completely and it kind of has an aerodynamic shape. The laptop pocket has a nice sleeve, and the top part should easily fit your power adapter and a few other things, and the front pocket can hold your books. It also have a smaller front pocket for odds and ends, a lower pocket that's perfect for snacks and a water bottle, and two side pockets.....I usually keep my cable lock in one. It's a good bag, just not the end-all for me.
