I've recently ordered a e1705, but did not like the backpack offering from dell,
so i'm doing my own research. What do you think of the backbacks listed here? Ebags looks pretty good organized, but samsonite and targus are well-known brands and i especially liked the samsonite bag. i'll be carrying my laptop, an external hard-drive, ipod, magazines, at least one 500 page book and other stuff like cables etc. i also want to carry clothes and who knows maybe some food also from time to time. do any of you own something listed here? which one will you recommend? i'm looking for backpacks, so if you think there is a better deal, can you recommend it?

btw, these backpacks they are all rain-proof right? sorry for such a lame question, this is my first laptop and thus first backpack for a laptop, so i'm pretty excited and at the same time that much clueless. :)

The toughest thing about buying a notebook backpack is getting an idea of how it feels on your back with the actual things you will carry. I walked into Circuit City and placed my notebook in each and carried it around the store; it was the longest 45" to an 1 hour. After all was said and done, I didn't choose any for one reason or another.

That being said, Samsonite and Targus will have better warranties.

I like the Samsonite Laptop Pillows. It has the Space Age foam in those higher end pillows making the case relatively shock proof. Now if they will only put the material in a backpack....

eBags has lifetime warranty, Samsonite and Targus have 3 years.

i'm still considering Samsonite one.. Please if you have any of these, comment.

    thanks

I tried out this backpack, and it was really great. The e1705 fit nicely, and there were plenty of pockets. The backpack doesn't look oversized.

If you are wanting a cheap solution, check this one out at ebags, read the reviews.

    Good Luck

I have a targus backpack for my E1705 and it barely fits but feels great. The backpack I have is:

    http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=TSB212

I don't have much to compare it to, but I'm happy with it. The only thing that could be improved is that zippers could be bigger/stronger.
But this bag has been subjected to very big loads in the past and it held up fine so maybe I shouldn't complain.

not using anything. it just fits :) it's a tight fit, but it works :)

I had a wenger bag before (not laptop backpack, just a messenger bag) and it fell apart on me in 6 months. I don't think this is representative of them, yet it is still a fact.

That samsonite bag is the same backpack that dell offers. Dell just rebrands it. I like it except for that fact its so boxy, everyone can tell you have a laptop in it.

I went for the big guns and got a Booq Python XL :). It was by far the best 17" bag i could find.. Really expensive tho, $220. But i dont feel bad because i feel like if u spend 3500 on a laptop then you shouldnt skimp on a backpack either. But yea, Python XL all the way!

I'm actually looking for a bag that can hold a 17" notebook. I'm torn between the Booq Python XL and the Spire ****. Any suggestions?

The backpacks designed for photo use with places designed in for laptops could also be looked at.

LowePro and Tanrac come to mind.
