    hi,

i was searching for motorola sb5100 at newegg.com when i was stuck at the 2 options they offerred. saw 2 options there:

    1. MOTOROLA Surfboard DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem, Model SB5100 - Retail
    Model# SB5100, Item # N82E16825122104 at $66.99

    2. Motorola (Surfboard) SB5100 Cable Modem - RETAIL (OEM, BAREBONE)
    Model# 501209-001-00, Item # N82E16825122104R at $49.00

the price diff. between the two is $18.00, and the 2nd option was actually a refurb.

but I'm interested in the statement on "oem, barebone". does anyone know what it means? i know a bit about a barebone pc, but a barebone cable modem? [?]

    rgds,

OEM means it going to come in a plain package, if it comes in one at all. The Barebone might mean a couple things, but my guess is no software. You might want to call to verify.
