hi guys
i have a hp9740us which i use for gaming, thus i overclock my 8600m gs vidcard
was wondering what cooler would be the best for my laptop as it gets quite hot when gaming.
i have a cooler right now and it seems to lower gpu and cpu temps by 5-6 deg celcius when used .
is this the usual cooling range or can i get a much better cooler than the one i presently have??
thanks

I'm partial to the NZXT CRYO LX. It's got 3 big 120mm fans, making it fairly quiet compared to others I've used. I've heard alot of raves about the Zalman NC200 as well, but I've never tried it.
-
i kinda like the nzxt also but i think its really quite expensive at 65dollars
a lot of guys also complain about the lack of speed of those big fans...
its also quite big and may not fit into my laptop bag. but it seems like one of the best out there though... -
Posting a pic of the bottom would be the first step in determining which cooler would be best.
-
he wants to cool his 17", why a picture of his bottom

i would recommend the cryo LX for just about any laptop 15.4" and bigger. in my opinion, it is the best designed cooler u can buy commercially. it is a purpose built cooler that is made to cool gaming/power notebooks. it works flawlessly on just about any surface, hard or soft.
the lower fan speed is a general misconception. the common person would usually assume that a 120mm should be spinnin @ a very high RPM. the truth is, the bigger the fan, the less they have to spin to move air.
the only con about the cryo LX would be transporting it to and from. it does have a few sharp/pointy edges that u'd have to watch out for. the cooler is also made of pure brushed aluminum, so it will not be as light as cheap coolers out there. -
The base of a cooler determines which cooler is best, due to fan and vent positioning

lol x2p way to tell him
i couldnt find a pic.

spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
I just use a 15" cooler. Just turn off ur SLI when not gaming as it reduces 10-15 degrees in mine.
-
He doesn't have SLI.

spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
There was no any rig so I just gave a general suggestion as most people have SLI or Crossfire.
-
HPs dont have SLI.

this is similar to my notebook bottom...
what would work best with this layout??Attached Files:

I have both the NC2000 and the Cryo for my Dell m1730. I prefer the Cryo because it supports the Dell better (it slides on the NC2000), cools better thanks to the large fans, has handy usb ports on the back, and folds to fit in my bag better.
I use that one while gaming, the other if I am in my room doing homework/watching movies. -
There is this one that looks interesting, but I have yet to buy it:

i'm not very sure of the fan quality/performance/placement, but the HDD slot looks very interesting. looks like alot of coolers will be gettin revisions or upgrades soon enough.

Check out my Enermax Aeolus Review (in sig).
It works great for me (Same Notebook).
NZXT Cryo LX is another one i recommend.
-
i just read your review last night
seems great indeed and at almost half the cost of an nzxt
as you pointed out im not sure if the nzxt's fans are placed right for the dv9000s
also i just havent seen temps for the nzxt which seems strange
i think ive narrowed my choices to the aeolus and the cooler master notepal infinite
oh one more thing, i may have missed it, but is the aeolus a sucker or a blower? -
Hmm, i thought I put that in the review... i guess not. *going to edit*
It is a Blower. Which IMO, works better.
-
this thread should answer most, if not all, of yur questions about the cryo LX.
-
the cryo really seems great but its just too expensive, too loud, and too bulky for my taste
-
it's about the same price as a nc2000.
the fans are NOT loud. i have to check to make sure the thing is on sometimes cuz i can't hear it.
it might be bulky, but it IS made out of solid aluminum (unlike 99% of the other coolers on the market that are mostly plastic). it also folds folds up to help improve ergonomics. -
i just feel that spending 60-70 dollars on a cooler may be overkill
-
i completely understand where u'r comin from. especially when there are so many coolers out there that can be had for just 10-20 bucks.
after actually using it and puttin the cryo LX thru some testing. i can tell u that it is one of my best laptop accessories. it's made of solid brushed aluminum, so it's built like a tank. it will support any laptop up to 18"-19" without any flex or fuss. the rubber surface on top was specifically designed to eliminate any hot spots on the underside of yur notebook.
i can't be bias and not speak about it's bulkiness that might affect transportability. but all that is made up by it's very well thought out design. it folds to help ergonomics while transporting to and from. u can even fold the front under and use the cooler on soft surfaces like yur bed and sofa. -
i actually got a generic blower based on the aeolus this morning. ill see how it work out for me.
just as i said i cant seem to justify spending 60to70 dollars on a cooler.
for me the lesson really learned is next time i should consider a notebooks cooling system before purchase.
i am actually planning on getting a notebook soon to replace my hp 9740 and thats why i would rather not spend a whole lot of extra money on accessories now.
but i appreciate all the inputs. thanks -
i wish u good luck on yur future purchases. i'm glad to be able to shine a little bit of light on a shady area.
i am 200% satisfied with my cryo LX and will be keepin this thing for a long long while (something u can't say for alot of coolers). when the fans do happen to go out, they are easily replaceable due to the fan mounting design. the only reason i would even think about gettin another cooler is if they come out with a better, redesigned cryo LX. -
Zalman NC2000 does a great job with my 17" dv7t
best cooler for my 17inch
