just like the title says. something that pairs well with a 15.4" laptop--but especially a sager 8662. it's got to fit in a 15.4" laptop case.

    thx!

I recommend you read the buyers guide but either a NZXT Cryo LX or Zalman NC2000 should work

congrats on the new beast! those are some nice specs.

i would also recommend the cryo LX. the quad core and 260m will love it.

I agree with the folks above me. :)

    the Zalman is thinner
the Cryo LX is more powerful (requiring external power for best performance)

that aeolus seems pretty good. i wonder if i could bolt a 255mm fan to a laptop stand and achieve the same thing?

The Antec cooler for 15" laptops works wonders for me. Keeps hard drive and other components extremely cool.

I'm digging the NC2000 with mine. During gaming my temps don't get very high at all.

The temperature drops with the aeolus are pretty impressive and for the price it seems like a good deal. Is there any data on temperature drops for either the zalman or cryo? I also have a sager 8662 and am looking for a good cooler at a decent price.

i have my asus on my zalman and the drops on the gpu went from 88C to 81c. i leave it on the cooler butt naked so my gpu never passes 74C and my gpu is overclocked quite a bit. I think the np8662 should receive temps around 68-71C. My hardrive also is at 38 on full load with the bottom panel on.

You know...the more I read on which cooler I should get for my sager, the more confused I get. I was leaning more towards the cryo because people say it is more effective for gaming, but then they say that it doesn't run to it's full power while using only the usb connection. A lot of people like the zalman, but they say it is more towards cooling the hdd, unless you flip it around (which seems pretty pointless to me, because then you'd have to do some sort of balancing act in order to keep the laptop tilted towards you). I haven't really heard much else on the aeolus, other that seeing that it is the cheapest of the three. Is there any definitive answer as to which one is the best, or are all three pretty much the same?

i got the aeolus because it was ~$20 cheaper than either of the others--that, and the design seems to be more conducive to airflow, imho. i'll let you know how it works for me once i get it.

i also have to install ut2k4 sometime this weekend and check my turbo-memory's capabilities.

I bought this box fan for $8 at Walgreens five years ago. It cools my laptop better than all your coolers put together.

This laptop is ridiculously sensitive to heat, so I'm definitely going to have to get a cooler for it. I'm actually leaning toward the CoolerMaster Notepal Infinite since it intakes air from the back (so you can use it on the couch, bed, lap, etc.) and is fairly reasonably priced (about $35). So you might want to look into that one too - I've heard nothing but good things.

the infinite is a good cooler that uses an "all over" type of cooling. there are better coolers suited for a serious gamer or someone that uses their laptop for very intensive programs tho. the infinite doesn't push very much air and doesn't provide air in the middle of the cooler. i've also read alot of reviews where bigger/heavier laptops will be too heavy for the mesh surface of the infinite. there have been stories of 17" laptops pushin the mesh surface down to where it rubs against the fans.

the cryo LX works great on soft surfaces, when u fold the front under.

I've seen that one before. There are so many rebrands of that design it's not even funny. I wouldn't recommend it.

The cooler fans suck air away from the laptop bottom.

It's mostly small companies not known for producing quality products that make knockoffs of this cooler.

For under $50, you can look at the Zalman NC1000 and the Enermax Aeolus. You can also try the cheapest one of the bunch, the Bytecc NC820. It's the Chinese bootleg of the NC2000.

Where do you find the NC2000 for $50 and under? I could only find it around the $60+ range (newegg, amazon).

This is the eight inch model. Back when I used it on my old 15 incher, it used to drop my OC'd 6600 GO max temps by over 30*C on medium speed. I think Walgreens has the bigger 12 inch model. I should walk to Walgreens and buy it for my 17 incher.

Well at least we all can agree that the box fan will definitely cool, but the real question is...can putting your laptop on a box fan be comfortable to type and game on? ;)

Nope. It would be very uncomfortable. That's why I drilled several holes into my foldable table and have the fan underneath.

what a bamf. to bad i cant do that at my university. would putting teh laptop on a small riser i e rubber feet, and having that box fan blow sideways be comparable? i dont want to spend so much on a cooler when im going to live in new york and it will be cold for a good portion of time. Thinking about getting the 8662 sager.

Blowing sideways won't do much unless you find a way to direct the airflow underneath the laptop. It's cold in New York so your laptop fans will be sucking in nice cold air anyway. Because your M860TU is a 15 incher, you can probably just put the laptop ontop of the fan.

Okay, so I didn't hear til now that the Cryo LX is only really good when using external power :(

If that is the case, what is the best cooler for the NP8662 when plugged in to the laptop itself. I'd like to be able to use it on my lap, but this isnt of the utmost importance...

that isn't true. there have been alot of guys that have proven that the cryo LX, in stock form, can handle much more power from an outside source. that is not sayin that today's modern laptops, especially gaming/power laptops, can't power the cryo LX properly. yur sager should have no problems powerin the cooler to it's designed RPM's.

NZXT, now provides an AC-powered adapter with yur cryo LX purchase. one thing that i've discovered is that the USB to USB wire spun my fans faster than usin my AC to USB wire.
