not sure if u were specifically lookin for earbuds or bud-type headphones. i really hate earbuds. those are the ones that hang on the outside of the ear. i've had many of those and they just do not compare to in ear monitors (IEM) when it comes to comfort and sound quality.

if u prefer sound quality over cheap bass then i would definitely recommend the head-direct RE0. they are premium IEM's that focus on clear highs and mids with just enough bass to where it doesn't muddle yur whole soundstage. best thing, u can get them for only $29 shipped to yur door now.

Sounds good to me but where do I find them for only $30? They're $80 on amazon.

I think he meant the RE2, those are $29 shipped on headdirect's website. :)

Almost all IEMs will have symmetrical cords.

the RE2's don't get the greatest reviews...

I have found many of them, like all the Sennheiser's to come with uneven cords, which I don't want.

Not all "in ear eaphones" are IEMs. ;) At least I wouldn't consider some $10 in earphones as IEMs. And you budget is $30, you aren't going to find the latest and greatest. The RE2 is very good for it's price.

How 'bout a warning instead: Don't buy crappy ear buds! Rather, spend some money and get quality ear sound devices. You ears will thank you.

Meelectronics m9 are $20 and are easily the best IEM for the money. look up the reviews on head-fi. highly recommended.

So a lot of the RE2 reviews mention pairing them with a Fiio E5 amp. Is this necessary? It puts me over my budget. Also, can anyone confirm that the RE2 has even length cords?

the RE2's are great, the amp help, but is not necessary. If you look you can find the re2/amp combo on amazon occasionally for about $50 which is a really good deal.

    I use my RE2's amp-less everyday though.

thanks for the correction. i'm a dummy, i got my own IEM's mixed up :p
i use mine ampless as well. the amp will just really give the RE2's a nice little bass boost. u can get the RE2 + fiio e5 combo for $40 bucks directly from his site. most of the negative reviews come from alot of guys that prefer a more bassier soundstage.

audio is just very subjective like that. my first experience with IEM's were my OEM ones that came with my m1530. i thought they were really great headphones cuz of the strong bass. i gave those to my gf, so i went out and searched for another pair of nice IEM's. prior to my purchase, i had never even heard of head-direct before, so i was dyin to check them out.

the first time i put them on, it was like a night and day difference from the majority of the headphones i've ever checked out. the highs and mids were so crisp and clear, i heard stuff i never have or barely could here before. i was afraid of the lows as well cuz of some of the reviews. to me, the RE2's have just enough bass to enjoy some nice, long hours of music. they might not be what alot of guys recommend for games and movies tho cuz u need that big bass note for those types of things.

another one of my recent IEM's that fit yur budget are the ultimate ears metro.fi 200's. they have a more neutral soundstage similar to my OEM ones that came with my m1530. the metro.fi's are a little clearer throughout range, and the bass doesn't muddle yur soundstage as much as the cheap ones. the highs and mids are definitely not on the RE2's level tho. i picked mine up for $20 bucks, so they weren't a bad purchase. the metro.fi 200's would be a pretty nice pair of phones for guys that are strictly watchin movies and playin games. the RE2's have better, clearer sound reproduction that is nice for music.

i use the Sennheiser CX500. The cord is equal and i think it sounds pretty good, and it is excellent at noise isolation. It does have a volume slider. I got mine for £25~ ish.

Ordered the RE2. Great reviews. Lacks good bass, and not the BEST at sound isolation, but good reviews.

Fyi, amazon and head-direct.com sell them for $29 + shipping. But you can find them for $29 shipped via ebay (which is also where houstoned got them)

I'm going to hold out on buying the Fiio E5 amp. Sounds good, and can be had cheap. I use my blackberry 9000 as my mp3 player and I've heard it might cause interference with the amp.

It's more than you're looking to spend, but the NE-7M's are supposed to be excellent for their price. Some say they even rival $100-200+ IEMs. There was a long thread going about them on head-fi.org.
