I have a 13.3 inch and 15.4 laptop. I’m looking for a durable backpack that is not too bulky, can use to carry either laptop and be able to take to place like the beach. Can anyone think of one that would fit the bill?

I’m not so concerned about the laptop getting damaged from a drop (as long as it has a separate compartment) but more concerned about the durability of the backpack from sand, dirt and some rain. I also don't need to fit a ton of stuff it it (just a laptop, towel and water bottle).

    Thanks

I would look at Arc'teryx, lifetime warranty and it's solid. I use the Blade 15, you might want to look at the Blade 24 as the 15 is a little small for extras.

I really like my ebags genius laptop backpack.

    Really Like It.

Actually fits two large laptops and all the 'goodies'. I need this for work.

Use to have an ebags downloader laptop. Also a good bag.

Take a look at Tactical Tailor. I have owned their "Enhanced Day Pack" for a few years, and it's an excellent product. Cost around $100 at the time. Unfortunately, the Enhanced Day Pack was discontinued since then, but they probably have a similar replacement product.

My "Enhanced Day Pack" has a large, heavily-padded compartment that sits next to your back, perfect for protecting a notebook PC. It will hold anything up to a 15.6" notebook. Tactical Tailor may have an even larger pack available by now, if you care to lug around a 17" or 17.3" machine.

The quality of construction is great. Double-sticthing is the rule, and the zippers are high-quality. My Tactical Tailor pack has proven very durable, and I will be using it again starting Monday, when I go back to school.

Would be interested to know what you get. Their current Urban Operator Pack seems very similar to what I bought in 2008. I notice it will now take a laptop up to 17".

    Maxpedition and/or 5.11

Good bags. I use a 5.11 Rush MOAB 10. It fits my HP DM4 14" screen, with a sleeve, snuggly and secure. Also very rugged.

Tom Bihn backpacks are quite decent too. I've never tested one on sand or submerged it in the ocean, but it's quite rain-proof. They do recommend reapplying the outer coating after a a while if you expose it to the elements often.
