Could you guys please tell me your suggestions for the best audio / video usb device for my HPdv8i30us. I would like to get old VHS footage onto my notebook to create movies. Also can I rip dvd movies directly to the pc from my onboard drive. Thanks for your suggestions :)

I have a Hauppauge USB2 PVR. Does a decent job, encodes to DVD compatible MPEG2, and works with a timer. The downside of MPEG2 as a capture format is it is tough to edit beyond cuts only.

PS, I seldom answer posts that include the word 'best' in their title. My 'best' may be your worst nightmare.
