i just bought this laptop http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...=product&tab=2&id=1204332500697#productdetail and i have this from my old winbookxl. http://www.epinions.com/Xtend_Micro...Adapter_for_WinBook_Si__Power_Supplies_E913X#

specs are input 12-16vdc 6.5a max
    output 5-24 v dc 60w max.

question is, will this run my new laptop? the end that plugs into the laptop does not fit but maybe i could get one that does. the cord that plugs into the laptop is removable and has an 8 pin din type plug on it.

Check your power specs for your laptop, they should be written in the back, see if they match the adapter spec.

There should be a sticker on you notebook somewhere that says that the voltage/amperage that it takes. See if it matches the label on the power supply.

Get a Xantrex inverter and plug it into your car. Plug your Laptop PSU into the inverter. And you can also use the inverter for other things. That PSU you showed, well, it's your laptop, but I use an inverter for mine.

there is nothing on the laptop, but on the power cable that came with it, it states output 18.5v 3.5a 65w, i know the inverter would be a better way to go, its just i already have this.but since the power supply i have is 5watts short i may have to buy an inverter. I have a big one, but it is way too big for cig lighter install. It draws 60amps!

I wouldn't lose sleep over 5W. The adaptor can probably take a slight overload and the full 65W is only likely to happen if you have full CPU + GPU load and are recharging the battery. Under light usage the computer may draw around 25W.

Do you have access to a multi-meter? I would check that the polarity / voltage of the Compaq and Auto PSUs before plugging the latter into the computer.

That's correct, my battery would actually supply about 32W to the laptop. And it doesn't matter if the W's are less for charging, it will just take longer to fully charge.

no matter as i said i buy mine from dealextreme for 19.xx$ shipped and they work great, ive bought a bunch and never had a issue. so if you decide to get a 100w one grab onr from there or yours as they said should be okay
