It would be nice if you could also provide the exact dimensions of your laptop (should be easily found on Dell's website), just to start us off.

I in fact have yet to own my first ever laptop, it's still coming in the mail. However I have been looking for a backpack of some sort myself as well.

I think I will settle for the Jansport Firewire backpack, or even a lighter North Face backpack, plus some sort of laptop sleeve. That should be good enough.

    I have the same question.

    17-inch Wide-Aspect WXGA+ and WUXGA displays: Height: 1.6-inches (41.5 mm)

    Width: 15.5-inches (394 mm)

    Depth: 11.3-inches (287 mm)

    Thank you!!

Don't know if it's the best deals, but try http://www.ebags.com/

You can click on business and laptop cases and start browsing there. If you want, you can also use the laptop bag finder feature on the website to find the right fitting for your laptop.

Anyone have any luck? I got the Mobile Edge Premium Backpack, but my 9300 is too long and too wide [V]. Otherwise it would have been perfect for it.

Thanks. I love it, but if i put the laptop in there i can't zip it up. The backpack is great for laptops since it has so much extra space for accessories and good padding. Kinda funny...I got that backpack because I read the review on here and thought it was great--
it arrived on Monday, and my laptop arrived this morning. I really thought it would have fit.

Purchased a Targus cpt400 for my Dad's 9300. The 9300 fits perfectly in the main laptop area of the case. The laptop area in the case has the adjustable (velcro) compartment, but due to the size of the 9300 it took the whole space (had to removed the adjustable velcro divider). Found the case to have room for all of his accessories (power cord, 3.5" floppy, mouse) in the velco pockets of the other zipper area. I would recommend this case for the 9300, case is is nice and compact but has enough room for accesories.

I bought Kensington 17 inch Pro bag and Targus XL backpack. Both have enough room to hold several books including college books and accessories. The Kensington has a sleeve that does fit the 9300.

i'm using the targus pulse laptop bag. there isnt enough padding for my liking, the corners might scrape the zippers, but otherwise it looks good, is light, has a waist belt thingie for distributing the weight onto your hips, and was $40 from ebags(i think).

my friend has the dell mobile edge deluxe bag that fits. it's specially designed by mobile edge to hold 17" laptops i think, because we cant find it on mobile edges' website.

i've tried the kensington contour backpack. didnt fit. another friend has an ibm bag that looks nice and fits, but is double the price. it fits well, but you have to remove the padding at the bottom for that to happen. i also checked out targus citysomething. that fit but i thought it was butt ugly.

These are great little stylish packs which will
fit a 17" laptop - and don't look like all those
aweful boring laptop bags - and they're really
comfortable - I'm getting one for my dell
9300 which is on order - best,

Look at the crumpler bags. Their website is kinda strange, but their bags are top-notch, and have gotten rave reviews- and nice looking (they passed my daughter's critical eye :)). The larger bags accomodate a 17" screen. They have several style messenger bags, and their backpacks are very nice ergonomically, and the zipper isn't accessible unless the pack is off, which is a nice safety feature. There is a great Ebayer for them too- Photococan (or something like that)- their customer service is amazing- great for a store, but exceptional for Ebay- I can't rec. them enough (I am just a very satisfied customer after they worked very hard to resolve a mistake which wasn't really their fault). The bags are waterproof and light weight, and the padding is good. Their new embarrassment line (considerable emb. is the bag for up to 15" laptops, I am not sure of the name for the larger lappies) is one of the lightest messenger bags with built in sleeves I could find with enough room to toss in a couple of books as well. The built in sleeve offers adequate protection for reasonable use. They offer another line which is even more padded if your use falls into the "abuse" category, but the messenger bag is around 3 pounds instead of 28 oz. for the considerable embarrassment (bag weight was a HUGE issue for me). The backpacks are in the 3 lb. range.

Last week, I received the Tekstyl Tekmod sleeve. First, I want to point out that the 9300 did fit. That said, I am returning the bag for a couple major reasons. The bag is open on either side where the shoulder strap connects and since your laptop sites bottom up, your ports are exposed at the openings. Even the slightest of rains would get in their and do damage. Second reason is there is no place to keep the power supply. I expected little space from a "sleeve" but at least give me a place to take what I need to operate the power. I am still on the look out. Ideally, would like it protect in case of drop, keep the laptop dry, be somewhat comfortable, and look somewhat professional. Bueller??? Bueller???

This is the one from Booq that I really would like to get:

    http://www.booqbags.com/Detail.bok?no=16

But being in Canada, it would cost me 240$ american to get it. That's a bit overkill just for a bag.

The other one I'm looking at from ebags is this one:

    http://www.ebags.com/pacific_design/action_ii_messenger_xl/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=44337

From the pictures, the dimensions and the compartments seem on par with the Booq bag, but nowhere near as cool.

Maybe someone could buy me the Booq one? :p
