i fly long haul often and one of the locations i fly to i sometimes spend up to 2 months there every 6 months, but then travel from that location to other locations in the region

as such, i dont want to invest in a really good/expensive speaker system. i'm looking for a decent 2.1 system (im looking at some logitechs) to leave there.

keeping in mind they'll only be used at most 2 months of the year, i dont really want to spend more than US$50 or GBP30.

the other option is, i have 2 Hi-Fi speakers from an old hi-fi which are awesome. The head unit works and has several inputs, what input is best to try to link my laptop to it, and if so, im assuming i'll only need to buy a cable? (im a noob when it comes to audio inputs, so bear with me please)

    suggestions very much appreciated.

There's not a ton of difference between systems in the same price range. That said, you could easily use your hi-fi system and just get a 1/8"(3.5mm)->RCA cable to take the headphone output to the system.

    Have you cosnidered headphones?

You get much higher audio quality for your money than equivalently priced speakers. And, they are very portable.

It depends on your hifi system, but most of them have RCA inputs. Hook up the system like normal, and just plug a cable like this into one of the inputs you can switch to on your stereo, the other end into the headphone port, and you're running. Not very hard at all.
