ok i have the Sager laptop, and about to buy these speakers.... http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...x?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0405790#Overview.
I am going to use the optical out on these speakers on my ps3 and i was going to use the coaxil output for my laptop. Is there anyway to do this? a external or internal sound card with coaxil? If it makes any difference i have a sager Np8660.

went over this many times, read this:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=284309
and your Clevo M860TU (Sager 8660) has SPDIF coaxial out for 7.1 using 3.5mm mono to RCA. -
thanks alot
-
so basically u buy that cable then run that cables coaxil side to the speakers and the optical side to any laptop sound card with optical output? and is this going to get full 5.1?
-
you can buy the cable that 3.5mm mono to RCA.
or its cheaper to get a 3.5mm mono to RCA female adapter (then you can use any RCA cable).
either case, this will enable up to 7.1 channel audio from the notebook. -
o i just relisized this are all ways to do a basic rca set up but i want to know if there is any sound card with Coaxil input so i can get 5.1 suround sound on my laptop.
-
o excuse my last post i hadent got to read your 2nd post yet. But is there any differece between rca sound and coaxil? isnt coaxil "Digital" sound? or does it not really make a difference
-
SPDIF comes in two flavors:
- one is through Coaxial (RCA)
- one is through Optical (TOSlink)
both are the same overall. -
ok im bringing this back up because i just got my logitech Z-5500 speakers and i bought the adaptor that u were talking about above i pluged that into the frot of my NP 8600 and connected it to my speakers from the adaptor with a red/white rca cable and on the speakers display it says no digital sound detected. Is there some type of driver i need or something?
-
you need to go to your audio manager and switch from speakers to digital output.
-
that didnt do the trick either
-
are you using a digital coax cable with an rca adapter on one end or are you just using an 1/8" to rca adapter with a regular rca cable? I was wondering because you said the cable had red and white ends. It should only be one cable, not 2 together.
-
i have a 1/8" to rca adaptor. and im running the 1/8 side directly into my pc then i plug a white RCA cord into the rca side of the adaptor and run that into my speakers.
-
that's the problem - you need a digital coax cable, not an rca cable.

i got it to work thanks for all your help. My problem was i had the adaptor pluged into my headphone jck on my laptop instead of the third jack on my laptop.
-
i thought digital coax cable was the same as a rca?
