looking for a good set of laptop speakers 2.1 for a dorm room

    looking around $100 ish

and no - I don't want the klipsch promedia 2.1's because of the durability issues (despite the sound quality)

i've read a lot that the logitech z2300s don't have any midrange.
im not an audiophile, but I want something that sounds nice

or - can someone point me in a "speaker" forum website?

z2300s sound great overall. IF you read reviews from both professional places as well as consumers , places such as cnet give it the highest rating of any 2.1 speaker setup. Other electronics/consumer review sites also. I listen to music alot but I am not a dj or am not in music profession but the 2300s sound great with music. For movies and games they are phenomenal.

if you read through the bad reviews o the z2300s, the people talk about how it lacks midrange (vocals) when compared to nice 2.1s like the klipsch 2.1's

for the most part - im thinking of not getting the 2300s =\

Ah well your loss man. If you read the reviews on newegg like I did some people say no mid range while other people claim they have no idea what tthose people are talking about. Some people were blown away while some were just impressed. Best advice for you would be to listen to them or whatever speakers you end up choosing before you buy. Good luck!

I don't know what to say, the Z2300s and Klipsch's 2.1 are really the two best options out there. If you are going with anything else, I would personally say that you would be doing yourself a disservice.

I have the Z2300s and the midrange tones could be better, but I will say that the entire package is quite good. Put me in the "impressed" category. Definitely worth the money.

If you really want those midrange tones I don't see whats wrong with the Klipschs. One of my house mates has them and they haven't given him any trouble. I still like my Z2300s though.

just that lots of people complain about the klipschs breaking down after couple months of use. rather not go through the pain of repairing/replacing - otherwise i would snatch them up...

I have a set of Klispch Promedia 2.1 spekers and they've been running great for the past school year. I did pack them up very carefully as I am moving off campus; but since I got the set new maybe that could be a factor.

Your own ears should be the judge of that, speakers are very subjective, what could sound phenomenal to your ears could sound like utter crap to someone else's, the room your using them in as well as placement can have a dramatic impact as well, especially at volume. I suggest you go some place that has a good return policy, buy both sets, and a/b them in your room with your equipment, then decide which one you want to keep.

I totally agree with iceman here, from the reviews of the x-230s i bought before there were mixed feelings, but after I received them i didn't really care about the cons people listed. I loved them and sold them only because I plan on upgrading to something this coming school year.
