ht I tried to adjust the sensitivity of the mouse pad but gave up and started using another mouse but now it's doing the same with an external mouse
Cannot use this machine for any serious business...text jumbles cursor jumps without control...is there a way to fix this?

Maybe your mouse does not like your mousepad, try another one!

Most probably due to your palm touching the touchpad while typing. There is a setting (something like Palm check) in your touchpad driver (i.e. Synaptics, Alps) to prevent this. Make sure that it is enabled, if it already is, then increase the sensitivity/strength of the check.

Are you sure this isn't a software problem? That sounds like a common problem with XP. There's nothing you can really do about it either.

It sounds like you need to turn off your touchpad. That happens to me too.l You just have to disable the touchpad in control panel>mouse. At least that worked for me. I hope it helps you too tcatdog.

    Good luck :)

Are you reading what I wrote? the mouse pad is what I tried to use. The cursor jumps when entering text after a minute or so....scrambling message...I tried 2 different external mice that worked well with other notebooks-The guy upstairs from me says that his Compaq is doing the same thing.
