I bought a mx518 on ebay, I got it today, I didn't came in a package or anything. the underside of the mouse different from the mx518 I bought from shop 3 or 4 years ago.

The one I got 3 years ago had a see-through underside with two lables
while this has non-see through cover one lable.

I don't want to jump to conclusion but did logitech make changes over the years or did I just get a near perfect copy?

    thanks.

    Newegg.com - Logitech MX 518 8 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Optical 1800 dpi Gaming Mouse

Nope just a new version of it. Replaced the feet with the G5's, and stuck with the one label approach. They also gave it native 1800 DPI with the set point software it shipped with. However the older MX518 still gets the 1800 DPI upgrade once the new setpoint software was downloaded/installed.

To confirm please use the serial or product number and call Logitech to confirm warranty or authentication..
OR better yet, test it out with games and see how it performs.

I don't play game, but the mouse feels very genuine and smooth. I think the new bottom is better than the previous version due to the larger contacting area.

However, when I plug the new mouse into my laptop, the default scroll is not 6 lines even though in my setpoint it is 6 lines. I have to click "OK" in setpoint to get it to scroll 6 lines. I don't have to do that for my old mx518.

Interesting. Well I can say it's probably a genuine Logitech MX518, if you want talk to Logitech/have them confirm it. It's a free call, doesn't take but a few minutes.

As per your scrolling issue, Setpoint sometimes fails to apply start up settings, etc. Happens on my G500, happened on my G7 wireless.
