Hey guys,
so, suppose my notebook (the MSI GX640) has a so called "Powered eSATA" port ( MSI - Power eSATA)
If I buy a 2.5" external drive with an eSata port, does that mean I don't have to plug in a USB cable for it to work? Like, any generic eSATA enclosure will be able to accept power delivered to it through the eSATA port? Just wondering... heh.
Thanks![]()

Yes, it means you don't need both a USB cable and an eSATA cable. No, not just any eSATA enclosure/drive will work. In the US, I'm only aware of one (which I have, and it works as advertised): 2.5" USB 2.0/eSATA Aluminum External SATA HDD Enclosure (Black) - Supports up to 500GB & Power over eSATA! HE-2521B, and you just have to buy a drive separately to put into it (less than $100 for a 500+GB drive at Newegg)
