Does anyone know of a good external hard drive that supports eSATA?
EDIT: ...Or external enclosure with such support?

I use a HiPoint 2.5" enclosure. If you can find one, I highly recommend it. It seems to require less power than a lot of the other enclosures that I have used and is all aluminium. You get both USB 2.0 and eSATA ports.

My Acomdata Tango 2.5" enclosure is awesome. It's aluminum, has a vent, and has eSata. The drive I have it in, a Hitachi 7.2k500, only requires a single USB plug, but it has the ability for two if necessary. I usually max out on the write in the 25-45mb/s and 50-70mb/s for read. This will depend on the drive, files, power, etc. but so far it has been awesome! I got my enclosure on Newegg, btw.

Does the OP have any requirements for ext. HDD? Cost? Capacity? Form factor? Color? Performance? There are lots of good options, but you need to refine your requirements to narrow down the options until you find one most suitable for you. -
Sorry if I was a little vague. To be honest I didn't quite know what I wanted when I first posted.
I don't really care if it is an external hard drive or an external enclosure. I REALLY want it to have an eSATA port, but it is not necessary. For an external hard drive, it must be at least 320 gb in size. As for the exclosure, I prefer one that holds a 3.5" desktop drive, because they are cheaper and have a greater capacity.
I would like the whole set up (which would mean both the enclosure and the 3.5 in hdd) to be less than $100, but I am willing to go up to $120 if I am forced to.
I have no preference as to color.
Speed (eSATA) and longevity are key.
Size, in this case, does not really matter.
Hope this helps! -
Well, then the Western Digital 1TB Black or Hitachi 1TB and Rosewill eSata/USB case (off the egg) are the ticket. I initially was going to grab the WD + case as they were the best on the market, but I instead upgraded my laptop and bought a 2.5" external case to carry around with my EEE. Back to the above, for speed, warranty, and reliability, I don't think you need to look much further. Based on today's prices, I think you can definitely hit your $120 max. One word of universal advice, always go more reliable and larger than you think you will want, because space fills up quick. Good luck!

Thanks! Actually, I had been looking at the Rosewill case, but I didn't know if it was any good.
That's why I wanted to go with the 3.5" enclosure. I only need 320 gb to back up my laptop, but I want the extra space to dump all of my media. -
The Cavalry 1TB eSATA drive I got is great: unbeatable for the price and capacity.
-
The tech specs for the cavalry say USB, but no eSATA.

hi, 2.5" drives are available at 500GB (just put one in my lappy
)
3.5" drives are bigger capacity, larger (doh) and cheaper BUT need mains power. that makes them not portable and need to be powered down, unplugged and re-plugged even if you only want to move some stuff a short distance.

I eventually will go for a 2.5" enclosure, but for the time being I need storage capacity and price over portability. Plus, electricity is free in the dorms so I plan on using as much of it as I can.

You can get 500GB-1TB Western Digital eSATA external drives at Best Buy pretty damn cheap. I'll be picking up one within the month for college.
