Samsung has a moderately priced 20 inch widescreen monitor. I do not recall the exact model number though.

I just bought a 22" WS Samsung 226BW that I've been very pleased with. It has 2ms grey-to-grey, 3000:1 contrast ratio, and 300 cd/m² brightness. I got it for $280 USD.

You could get a second hand Apple 20" cinema display if you can find one...

Second the Dell 2007WFP suggestion. I have one and it's definitely a nice monitor, better than anything else on the market for its size. It uses the same panel as the Apple Cinema Display, but looks much better and is priced more reasonably due to the discounts.

I have looked at quite a few monitors lately and am leaning towards the 226BW, or maybe wait for the 24" version(I really want a 24). I have not see the dell first hand but the specs concern me. The 2007WFP is 800:1 contrast and 16ms response. I would be worried about ghosting. There are better, especially for the price.

Dell monitors are solid. Unlike their botchy notebooks, these monitors are considered to be excellent--comparable to the Apple Cinema Displays and sometimes out performing them.

The 16ms response time may "sound" like there would be some signs of ghosting but I experience no ghosting myself and many online reviews have little to complain about such ghosting. Then again I am a graphic designer, not a gamer.
