hello everyone
we have 2 laptops, Toshiba and Compaq and in both the CD drive broke, so both computers cant play CD disks.
We want to get 1 external drive, that connects through USB, that would be good for both laptops.
Question - are there such external drives that would be good for both different brands? And if there are, what would you advice to get that would work for both laptops?
Thanks

An external usb drive would work the same for either laptop with no problems. However, you can more than likely get a replacement CDRW/DVD drive for your laptops from somewhere like newegg for not much more than a single usb2 external drive. They are very simple to swap out. Laptob drives are rather delicate with the flimsy slide out trays, but for a bit more $ you can put in slot load drives that will hold up a lot better.

we want to get just 1 external cd drive for both laptops to use.
replacing them for both would cost a lot, at least here.
i just dont know how to pick the right external drive that would be good for both laptops and dont know if any drive is good for any laptop brand? -
Yes any brand drive will work with both laptops if you get a USB connection drive.

We too are interested in getting a new external DVD writer. We mainly use this for data backup using the
DVD+RW and DVD-RAM formats. We have an older LG GSA5160D external USB DVD writer, but it has a problem in that it can only write about 1 GB at a time before it heats up and does not write properly (with no indication that there is a problem). We would like to be able to write a whole 4 GB set of files at one time reliably. One reason for not wanting to do the writing using the notebook is that it is very noisy. Also, in principle an external drive should provide a better writer and it can be shared among multiple computers.
Does anyone have any recommendations for external DVD writers based on actual experience? -
do you want notebook sized (and powered) or full-size?

We are interested in full-size DVD writers. Size and weight are not a consideration. The main consideration is reliable writing of data - writing a full disc at one time without heat problems or other problems. Thanks.

If reliability is an issue I'd suggest getting a full size 5.25" drive with an external case. You can get slimtype external drives but they suffer the same problems as laptop drives.
Where is 'here' because I actually have an LG external dual layer DVD-rewriter I want to sell!
external CD/DVD etc Rom?
