Are there fake dell batteries? I'm thinking of picking up a 9 cell off of ebay since I'm using my notebook a lot more now in places without an outlet

Yes there are a ton. Make sure the auction is for a "oem" battery. if it does not have oem in it dont buy it.

    +1 on that.

Though there is this Laptop Battery seller (from Hong Kong if I remember well) who claims to supply Dell batteries, matching product number's / codes or whatever, and he/she has something like more than 99% rating. The feedback' as well look good. And I had spoken with couple of people who have actually bought from them, and it was all working fine for these people.

For me though, I was a bit skeptical and thought a lot about it. Finally decided to get one from Dell, just to be on the safe side (have a 9-cell, wanted a 6-cell).

Edit: Here > http://myworld.ebay.com/laptop_batteriespart/ It was this seller on EBay. But I am not recommending this seller, or giving any word either. I am just giving you information. And btw, LOL, the rating is 98.8%!!!

The problem isn't only picking up fake batteries, but picking up genuine batteries with so little charge remaining.

I have bought plenty of things off of Ebay, but notebook batteries is something I will never buy from there, due to the risk of counterfeits and defects.

Keep in mind that a counterfeit or defective laptop battery could prove deadly.

Yeah..that's some $$$ to put out...

I got 2 batt's (6 & 9 cell) when I purchased my lappy. I figured why not have 2!! One for when out and about, and the other for at home. Plus, it was cheaper to buy at the *point of purchase* vs. doing it later.

Same here. I also have an extended battery for my Toshiba U405D (13.3) which travels with me. I didn't get an extra battery for the Acer Aspire One because the 6-cell is supposed to last about 6 hours.

You got the Aspire One?! Nice :D

Yes! I got the Acer Aspire One in Sapphire Blue with 6-cell battery and 160gb hard drive. The price was 399 from newegg, but there was a glitch in my order, and they credited me 75 dollars AND gave me free next day shipping.

I am now a loyal Newegg customer!

My AAO ended up costing about 324 dollars. :D

:) My last three trips I brought my Toshiba. My next trip I will be bringing the Acer and I will put that 6-cell to the test!

I have to say the Acer is something else. I brought it to the office last week, and my boss couldn't keep his hands off it. It really is a nice piece of goods!

    Well-built...feels good...looks good...Does not feel like a cheapie.

Very fast too. Love it. :)

Of course, I keep it in a Zeroshock III sleeve. :)

Cin...I "overbought" cases for the AAO. I have my Zeroshock as well as about three other cases of different makes.

If you decide to get the AAO, or something similar, I will send you one of these cases...on me. :) Even I don't need four cases for my computers LOL

I plan to be in Hong Kong end March. I'm looking for a replacement battery (56Wh) for my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. Any suggestions where or how I can find one in Hong Kong?

I was one of those people who ordered "Made In China" batteries for my Dell laptop. Words for the rest of you... DON'T! The seller was in Hong Kong but shipped from California. Problems included: 1. Interference fit - if you can press in - it will stick out by about 1 mm. 2. Color is wrong. The case is a slight charcoal silver - the battery is silver shiny. (I'm anal). 3. Weight. The wt of the MIC batter is about 2 ounces less than OEM. 4. Return policy - First it was, no problem, then send pictures, then send back and we will check, then send more photos, and finally, nothing.. As for 98% rating, if you substract the plugs, end adapters, and other easy fake stuff, the real approval rating on their batteries are less than 50%. Anyone wanting to try a MIC battery please email me. I have a deal for you.

I bought a Chinese knockoff 9-cell battery for my old Dell Studio 1535, and it worked just fine until the day I replaced the laptop. Colors matched, it fit just fine...the only thing wrong was one of the rubber feet at the bottom of the battery was missing. :p But that was easily taken care of with a chunk of rubber eraser, a penknife and some glue.

I am just worried that Chinese can clone anything so even OEM written, it might be fake. I had faced similar problem in past with one of my old inspiron battery.

I just bought a 9 cell replacement for my M1530 from an ebay seller that claimed to be identical to my OEM battery which was nearly useless after a year of use. I'm on the non-OEM battery at the moment and my battery bar indicator tells me that it has a full capacity of 74.5 mWhr as opposed to the 85 advertised on the listing, but I'm not sure if that is typical for most batteries to have an effective mWhr number less than what they are manufactured for... In any case, the fit and look of the battery is exactly identical to the original 9 cell, the weight feels the same, it just seems to discharge more quickly than my original battery. IIRC, the original lasted for nearly 4 hours on a full charge when new and using power saver mode and browsing the web, and this one seems to be lasting for a little under 3 hours under the same circumstances. I'll have to test it a bit more to be sure, and I guess I'll see how quickly it wears over time, but it was a LOT cheaper than an official Dell battery so I guess there are tradeoffs.

so dont buy batteries from ebay?
they have 9 cell and 12 cell batteries available for purchase, and acer doesnt even make a 9 cell i believe.
oem batteries costs so much though!
