I'm living in Chicago, which has some rainy day and snow in winter. So, i'm finding water-resistant backpack to protect my notebook from rain and snow. I have look around Internet but i don't know which one is water-resistant.

Please help me to find affordable backpack for me... thank you very much.

ps. My notebook screen size is 13 inch.

How about using a laptop sleeve and a backpack with a fine (not coarse) plastic zipper. Not a metal zipper as it likely lets through droplets of water more easily.

The sleeve can *really* save your laptop if you ever drop your bag - believe you me, I *have* dropped laptops in the middle of the subway - and survived!

wow, it's everything i wanted, but i think it's style is very very ... cool ... too cool.

Now, i have another choice. it's High Sierra Access. it's not water-proof but it has cover sheet to protect.

    I still can't decided ... -_-"

I'm not sure if you'd consider a messenger bag, but one plus of that style is the zipper is frequently covered by a flap, which helps keep the water out too.

Chrome Bags makes a backpack that's designed like a messenger with a flap. these are definately waterproof with a separate ineterior 18oz PVC truck tarp liner. if you check out my messenger review in the sig, it's pretty much that except with backpack straos.

There's also tom bihn backpacks, if you like the style. I believe Timbuk2 also released a new backpack... i vaguely remember getting an email.

Camel bak makes a backpack called the Hellion thats a new outdoor hydration waterproof pack with waterproof zipper on exposed area. Its actually made with snow and winter in mind. Not just rain. This pack will definately fit a lot of laptops though not mine (17"). If you want something that can also be used to hike and be dry in, this is an awesome pack. Rugged looking which being an outdoors person, I like.

Spire makes GREAT backpacks for laptops though not waterproof. But....they make padded sleeves for all laptops. They make several different ones to have a good fit with a specific laptop. You go to their site (Spire USA) and put in your laptop and they find you the sleeve. The sleeves go in their backpacks and you can buy them separately. You can use the sleeve in ANY backpack that will fit it. Obviously Spires backpacks fit them best with a strip of Velcro on the back of them but they are great little padded sleeves. http://www.spireusa.com/

I use a setup that you might like.

Ultimate Direction - Zoom (Not very well known like The North Face, but better quality hands down).

REI's Sleeve (The small might fit, what kind of notebook is it? The Macbook fits vertically but has a little room horizontally).

Both are found at REI.com and the bag is on sale right now so you could get both for less than $100 shipped.

The backpack is waterproof. It's a race style biking bag but works well.

    thanks all advise :)

I'd rather choose backpack style than messenger style. ^-^

I have seen all Tom Bihn products. it's look very good in shouder bag, not backpack, i think. ( i'm very like Large Cafe but it's too small to carry all of my stuff ... and it's not backpack )

currently, i'm interesting in Timbuk2 Underground Daypack. it's only $70 and lower in some website. does anyone have used it? is it good in water-proof ( rain and snow )

It's got a rubber bottom, that's the only waterproof part.

    This is my bag

I'll come back and post more if you want any information on it. Basically it's waterproof, well made, and VERY light.

Your bag is loaded of interesting features, but, frankly i don't like it's appearance. however, very thank you.

by the way, I copied this text from Timbuk2 official website ..

well, i don't know is it trustable. Does anyone has Timbuk2 product? please tell me about water-proof... thank you

I thought you might not like the appearance, like I said, it's all about what style you want. As for Timbuk2, they have great well made products. I trust their quality over Jansport and Jansport does make very well made backpacks. If your looking to get something that is truly waterproof then Cordura will not cut it for you.

STM bags are pretty good. You can purchase a pack cover to with with them. More importantly, you can put the cover on any backpack you purchase (for instance, you can get a good Targus back for $20-30, then slap this on it).
    http://www.radtech.us/Products/Backpacks.aspx

Plenty of other pack covers can be found at various outdoors outfitters, but most are made for backpacking. This one comes in a size "small" that will fit most daypacks (usually 1400-2000 cubic inches). I can vouch for both the manufacturer and the retailer:
    http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/s...6&storeId=226&catalogId=40000000226&langId=-1

Good idea to think about this in advance, BTW.

Well, they do make stuff for PC laptops too. I'm not sure I'd use the word "overpriced" to describe booq's products. Expensive, certainly, but overpriced indicates they are charging more than what they are worth, and I'm not sure that's really true. For the materials and protection and features of booq's products, I think the pricing is really pretty reasonable, and well in line with most other premium laptop backpacks.

I'd only agree with overpriced if one could say that they weren't very good quality or that you didn't get what you paid for, but I don't think that's true. booq's stuff is pretty highly regarded and almost always garners excellent reviews.
