When I go off to college next year, I'd like to bring my 360, but I'd rather not bring a TV. Will any USB TV tuners (or any other devices) allow me to use the laptop's screen with the Xbox?
If possible, I'd like for it to be high-definition compatible, though SD is better than nothing.

i would also like to know if it's possible
been wanting to get xbox 360 for a while but in my own tiny shack. -
Here you go:

More realistically, I am pretty sure there are adapters around, though I don't know any off the top of my head. -
It won't work. You'd need something like a video in line, which laptops don't have. I never tried it with a TV tuner. Maybe it'll work, but I doubt it. If you could try it.
A normal PC monitor can double as a screen for a console though with the proper cables. Or maybe just buy a really cheap TV set. -
isnt an hdmi cable do? from xbox to laptop?

The easiest and best way is the Adaptec Gamebridge

there you go, Xbox 360 VGA A/V Cables -
Even with all the cable... how can one power the notebook monitor without turning the notebook itself on? Without hard modification of course...

Keep in mind that also that TV tuners usually have a small delay of 1-2 seconds when receiving the signal and process it so the computer can display it.
It won't matter if you're watching a movie or receiving TV but it will affect console gaming as games are reflex based.
There is no option that I'm aware of about a laptop that just allows to turn the screen on.
You may be off better one of those 7"-10" LCD monitors some companies make for consoles. -
I got a vga cable for my 360 for only $20 at target,is not name brand but it works great on my monitor, have you thought about buying a 17,19,or even a 20 inch monitor to hook it up?they are pretty slim, cheaper than tvs and picture quality is great

I play my xbox 360 on my Dell insp 6000. I have a slot based tv tuner, i use the S video in to get the signal. It's not bad.

Just get the Adaptec Gamebridge. There are a lot of similar devices, however a lot of those USB tuners have so much lag you would cry.
-
Also to some people need to READ THE THREAD. He wants to output his XBox to a laptop. The VGA port on notebooks is an OUTPUT port, you can not just buy a VGA cable and think its going to work. Notebooks are trying to send out a signal, not take one in...

I own an Adaptec Gamebridge TV (same as a regular gamebridge, but allows you to input an antenna or cable also). There is minor lag which is noticeable, but for games that aren't too fast paced you'll be okay. It's handy when you lose since you can blame it on the lag.

Honestly, gaming on a laptop screen will be terrible. I have done it before with a tuner. It is far from desirable. Get a 17-19" LCD TV. You can use it for tv, gaming, and as an external monitor for your laptop.
-
tv cards that rely on hardware decoding will have lag because they just arent fast enough. Get one which has a software decoder, that way your console deals with the game and your laptop processor only has to decode the images.

you are gona need a tv tuner

I got a game bridge long time ago for like 8$ on ebay it works fine for old consols, but dont expect HD resolutions.
NO LAG like stated above on mine. I spent alot of time working with the gamebridge trying to get the most out of it and part of that process was trying other 3rd party software as the capture software on the pc to view the video and record it.
I DID see lag one one of those programs (forget wich one it was)
Another one worked better than the stock with a nice full screen and let me capture to MP4 instead of MP2 so the capture was much better, but for the life of me I could get no sound.
Im at work and left my laptop at home accidentally tonight so I cant remember the names exactly.
The one with good capture but no sound was Ulead Video Studio, the other was a freeware TV capture program DScaler I wanna say.
Overall a great little gadget tho since its so cheap and also lets you record. I wish they would release a new version that improves the weak points of the old one.
