I am looking for a game controller, something with two directional sticks, but otherwise very basic. I am looking to go as cheap as possible. Wired is fine. Force feedback isn't necessary. Does anyone know of any good cheap ones out there?

I second the 360 controller. It's by FAR the best game controller for PC.

i have a Logitech Rumblepad 2, it is old but when i bought it is was only $15, i think. It looks like a PS2/PS3 just a little bit more round. It's ok but i'd go for a 360 controller if i bought one now.

I am guessing the xbox controller uses USB? Is it comfortable to hold? Sorry, I have never used one, lol. The last console I bought was a N64, since then it has been just mouse and keyboard. GTA4 is a little difficult with that setup though.

The $50 controller is the wireless one. You'll need to buy an additional adapter for it to work on the PC. Your best bet is to use the wired controller.

Glad you could find it ;) You also get free shipping on it, so that's nice. No sales tax as well if you live in certain states.

No biggy. The wired one is hardwired and has no wireless capabilities. Most people buy the wireless controller because they're using it for the 360. The wired one isn't nearly as popular.

Everybody that I know that has used the controller thinks it's comfortable. I'm 5'10" and have average sized hands, and it fits my hands very well.

I finally opened my wireless 360 controller up and started to use it. I like it, its comfortable and was just plug & play in Vista.

MS still needs to come up with better drivers though that allow you to change axis points or invert them. Lucky for me I figured out how to do that on my own with Glovepie. Thats like the ultimate program, I even used it to make my 360 controller have keyboard commands so I could use it on old emulators that do not have gamepad support.

Wich one the Xbox 360? Yeah its native, as its a port. So it even adds the xbox buttons to the IU like the controller settings screen.

I'm curious about GTA4. Are you able to accelerate slowly with this controller or is it full throttle like pressing the W button on the keyboard?

It says it is for the 360, but the only difference between the pc controller and the 360 version is the driver disk, for which they charge a higher price

I usually tell everyone to do what I did.

I bought the 360 controller, went on microsoft's site, downloads, and navigate until you find the 360 controller.
Choose your OS download the file and install it
Plug in the controller and you are good to go :D

    Hope this helps

The 360 and PS3 controllers are just USB HID deices they work in windows too. There is no difference between the 360 and PC versions just as RaYYaN stated.

You shouldn't have any issues beacuse they offer a 64-bit version of the driver on thier site as well

    You can download it here

Just choose 360 controller, your OS, version, and language

Yeah, PS3 works on PC. I do not recall if its plug and play as I have seen work around solutions to get it working, but I think sometime recently it has native support. I know of some PS3 PCB's that are advertised as both PC & PS3

yeah you need a special driver for the ps3 controller to work, just do a google search. the standard method didnt work for me, but i found another driver after an hour or so of searching.

but on topic, i like the feel of the ps3 controller, so that's what i use.

I have a Madcatz Wired 360 Controller I am useing. I got it for $12 clearance at Walmart, but I am betting they have them a gamestop for cheap as well. I am useing Vista 64 currently, I just plugged in the controler and windows automaticly installed the drivers. Same easy install for XP.

I have Burnout Paradise for the PC, its really nice that that game has complete compatibility in that when it says to press the red/A button it truely is the red/A button, this is the first game I have had where the controller worked just like playing on a console.

    Yeah, LOL
Microsoft charges 20 bucks for a disc with drivers that are avilible for free on their site

I can confirm they are available on the site

Most games nowadays are programmed using the 360 controller, so all the buttons carry out the correct tasks.
Another example is DMC4 the button onscreen eg. X , y ,A, B do the same thing when you press them
There is no need to use a programmer like Xpadder like I used to with my logitech rumblepad

yeah i encounter this problem when i played DCM4 with my logitech rumblepad 2. But now i don't play DMC4, but i play on playing SF4, should i keep my rumblepad or sell it and upgrade to 360 control or the PS3 control?

i really need help with that question.

I sold my rumblepad to a friend, and got the 360 pad myself

I play quite a few games using controller myself, and hated having to create profiles and load them, etc.
    They also didn't work

I recommend getting a 360 controller and downloading the drivers from microsoft's site
Since SFIV is new it will probably be programmed to take advantage of the 360 controller

    Hope this helps
