The corsair vengeance line isn't bad either, the gamescom line offer very good bang for the buck too. No headset in the 40-70$ would fit my description of amazing though. Decent/good, yeah, but not amazing.

    EDIT: Steelseries Syberia too.

In terms of comfort, it's hard to beat the Syberia v2.

Siberia V2 are very comfortable, but the quality I feel is, only OK.

When they were on sale it was worth it, but at full price I would probably not be happy with my dollars spent.

If they are on sale, yeah they are, but they aren't worth their full price tag. I'd put the carcharias in the decent category, nothing to write home about and it's a bit on the flimsy side, but it isn't bad either.

I'm sure the OP will be able to find a decent headset on sale between the offerings from Logitech, Corsair, Steelseries, Gamescom, etc. I certainly don't regret my corsair headsets they aren't top of the line, but given how much i paid for them they are pretty good for the price i paid. I'm using the vengeance 2000 right now (stereo mode) and it's alright aside from some slight white noise when no sound is playing and there is an app using the sound drivers opened.

I use my Turtle Beach P21s that I got for my PS3 a couple years ago. I've also tried on the xbox versions and both are extremely comfortable. I have worn them for probably around 8 hours and they cause no pain whatsoever. Also, the microphone swivels and bends nicely.

What I know about headphones/sets is that Turtle Beach isn't always the best. Everyone automatically thinks about Turtle Beach when they want a headset for gaming, but it is worth it to look at other brands too. Not all headsets are being marketed as "SUP3R ELITE GAMING HEADSETS", but they can be better than those Turtle Beach headsets.

DO NOT go for a 5.1 surround sound headset. It doesn't make sense. Surround sound doesn't work in a headset, because the speakers are just too close to each other and your ears.

I would always go for comfort > quality. I have Philips SHP2000 headphones. They kind of have too much bass (although I like it that way), but they are comfortable as hell. And there were not expensive at all. Compared that to some sennheiser headphones that are supposed to be the best bang for the buck: the sound quality sounded thin to me (again, I do like me some bass), and they weren't comfortable at all.

Also mind that some gaming headsets are directed at clarity and awareness, if you get what I mean. This means you can really hear what way the enemy comes from, if someone is close to you, and from where you are being shot at. But this isn't needed for FPS games, and besides: often the actual sound quality sucks in those headphones. Lack of bass, sound is thin... You are going to regret that when you just want to play an action game or watch a movie or something. If you really, really want a super high K/D or whatever in online FPS games, maybe you should look for such a headset, but I would just go for a "normal" headset. I like to play my games, even FPS games, with good sound quality and bass, for an epic experience. I don't mind that I get killed once or twice more often because I couldn't hear the enemy coming.

Maybe this will help: Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (Updated: 7/14/2012: Ultrasone Pro 900 added). The Sennheiser PC360 is supposed to be the best headset ever, but they are more competitive and not "fun". In that link is a big list, and I would look for the most comfortable and fun headsets if I where you.

A good option I got from the link, not too expensive:

Don't forget the OP's budget, there are a lot of higher end headsets and headphones that are just out of his price range. For example, i always enjoy using my HD25-1 II for gaming, but they aren't always practical in terms of having the headphones and mic in one package (which is why i often go back to my vengeance 2000, that plus i can make trips to the fridge without worrying about wires) and they are way outside of the OP's price range as well.

A headset or headphones that audiophiles would consider good are technically out of the OP's price range so it's best for him to settle for something decent with good comfort.

That's why I thought of the Creative Aurvana Live!. He should be able to get that for a decent price (in his price range).

I'm not an audiophile, I just believe in doing research. I do LISTEN to audiophiles. Although audiophiles often go for the best for the best, sometimes they have some very good deals. For example, I bought some 4 dollar IEMs from focalprice.com, and they are absolutely AMAZING for that price. Worth like 30 dollar.

A real 5.1 surround headset is not worth the premium for the extra speakers, but you can have a surround sound effect in a headset. To say otherwise is simply not factual.

I'm sorry, that isn't what I meant. You can get surround sound effect, but not by having 5 or 7 speakers in your ear. Not through 5.1 or 7.1. Soundstage, that is the thing that gives you the surround sound effect. And software can also help.

Ok, just wanted to clarify. I agree with you, the headphones with 7 speakers in the cans (I saw one with speakers in the headband) are marketed towards people who don't know any better.

My bad, the way your post was written, it did looks like you were suggesting going for higher end gear which i totally endorse if you have the budget, aside from the fact that it'll be hard to go back to 50$ gear when you'Ve gone for entry level audiophile gear.

I agree on the surround features, virtual surround can be alright, but having multiple drivers (driver as in speaker, not software ;)) close together doesn't do much and on top of that it means that each driver isn't of a very good quality since to keep the price in check, manufacturers go with cheaper drivers with a low quality.

My advice to you will probably sound a bit odd but it's the road I went down and many others. Typically the gaming headphones sound like garbage. You can look for used or new quality headphones and simply attach a mic such as the antlion AntLion Audio — Welcome you could pair it with a headset like this Amazon.com: JVC HARX900 High-Grade Full-Size Headphone: Electronics some audiophiles absolutely love the bang for the buck sound quality.

Obviously you can spend more and get a better quality headset.

I highly recommend doing this so you can choose the headset apart from the mic and end up with a headset that you can use that is both comfortable and useful outside of just merely gaming.

    Any comments about the headset?
