I am looking for a decent gaming mouse. Maybe around $50, I may be able to go higher if you can justify why I need to spend that kind of money on a mouse. Currently looking at the Razer Deathadder. What is the best mouse in this price range?

Thank you for the other options. Once I figure out for sure what laptop I will be getting I am most likely to get the Razer at this point.

Razer DeathAdder is a pretty solid choice. Either that, or the Logitech G400.

For your price range, I'd recommend sticking with an optical sensor. I highly prefer them over laser sensors (5000+ dpi) found in more expensive gaming mice ($60+).

As others have said, it's pretty much down to the DeathAdder vs. the G400. Both use very good optical sensors with similar DPI (and more DPI than you'll ever realistically need either way). My vote goes to the DeathAdder based on my preference of physical comfort, but you really can't go wrong either way (unless you're left-handed, in which case you'd have to get the lefty DA, as there is no left-hand G400 :p)

I am tempted to go with the G400 because it is cheaper and I have read a good number of reviews suggesting that razer mice are not as durable as they could be. Has anyone here had issues with their razer mouse quitting prematurely?

My original 1,800 DPI DeathAdder from 2007 is still going strong, as is my 3,500 DPI refresh model from 2009. Also, a Mamba from 2010 or so, no trouble with any of them. Worst case, they have two year warranty.

Though I think Logitech's is 3 years, so that's an advantage for them. Still, it's highly unlikely you'll have an issue with either one.

The DeathAdder 3500 dpi that I have is literally the best gaming mouse in this price range that I have ever used. Pair it up with a good mousepad and you're good to go. I bought it on amazon last year for $44, but I think the price marginally increased since, and it's been worth every single penny, and more.

Pros: Braided, long cord (although I appreciate the length, some might not like it. solution: just roll it up a bit lol) ; very, very precise ; LMB + RMB buttons very very sensitive and makes it good for FPS games where you can basically shoot on impulse with a twitch of your finger ; good size for both small and large hands ; plug and play - installing software is recommended for customizing though ; looks good but not overly flashy - you can turn of the LED.

Cons: advertized as "on-the-fly" DPI res switching. FALSE, the DPI res can button is on the bottom and not exactly something you can access when you're in the middle of the game - but whatever, NBD ; Mouse wheel does not have side-scroll ; sides can get a little dirty over play sessions due to glossy finish.

That said, I highly recommend you got for the DeathAdder coming from my own spectacular experience with this gem of a mouse at such a low price. You can't go wrong with this one. But of course, feel free to choose whatever catches your fancy, the G400 is a great mouse as well among others. This is just my 2cents :)
