    Define "budget".

For $50 or so, it's hard to go wrong with the Razer DeathAdder.

It's an optical sensor, which is generally less finicky about what you use it on than lasers, but it's best when paired with a good mouse surface to take advantage of the ultra-slick Teflon feet. If you like hard surfaces, I recommend the Razer eXactMat. If you prefer foam/cloth pads, check out the Goliathus (Speed edition) or SteelSeries QcK.

Saw that you already bought a mouse (albeit a wired mouse).

Still interested in considering portable wireless mice?

The Orochi requires wired mode to achieve best performance. As a wired mouse, it's pretty darned good. But there are better wired mice out there.

As a wireless mouse, it is half-assed.
    • The biggest flaw, by far, is the short sleep timer. After 2 seconds of inactivity, the mouse goes to sleep. When you move it again, there is wake-up lag.
    • There is 8ms lag, inherent with all Bluetooth mice.
    • Batteries are not rechargeable

How is a sometimes-wired-sometimes-wireless mouse the "best mouse period?" If you want a wired mouse, get a wired mouse. If you want a wireless mouse, get a good wireless mouse... not Orochi, which does a half-assed job in wireless mode.

I bought the deathadder and I like it so far. Its probably overkill for starcraft 2, but Ill be playing CSS and TF2 in the future. I didn't quite have enough cash on me at the time to buy the orochi

i'd suggest anything with bluetrack or logitech darkfi--whatever it is...anything with a red laser would be a serious no no...
