I was looking at the North Face Surge, but then was afraid that it might not fit my M1530, so I am trying to find another alternative. Anyone know of another good backpack that can be compressed so that it will not be 3x bigger than me and could fit my laptop? I am a very skinny guy.

The Surge is supposed to fit up to a 17 incher, I'm sure your XPS will fit.

if you are going to try and fit a 17 inch in the dedicated laptop compartment forget about it.... i cant even fit my m15x into the dedicated laptop compartment. you can fit a 17 inch into the main compartment though. go to ebags and look up the north face surge. then take a look at the list of notebooks they have that will fit the north face surge.

The site also stated that the Surge can fit the m15x so it made me wonder how accurate is it.
