I have a laptop capable of hdmi output (np 2096) or maybe it is input, I am not quite sure. this means I can plug it into my HDTV with an HDMI cable, correct?

so i have an HDMI cable, and it is plugged in to my laptop and my HDTV. but the image of my laptop does not appear on my TV. I haven't done anything other than plug it in. Is there somethign else I am supposed to do to get this to work? thanks

I am not 100% sure for Nvidia GPUs, but if you go into the graphics card options you should be able to set the TV as the monitor. Also, you need to go into audio properties (control panel) and set the sound output as your GPU to get sound from the TV.
