I want to buy this dvd player that has hdmi, component, and composite outputs to a tv that only has s-video and composite. I an going to buy a new lcd tv this fall after i see my new dorm room but for now I am sticking with the tv I have. So is there a way to connect component or hdmi to s-video since I know its better quality than component.

Usually you can get a cheap, knock off, made-in-taiwan-because-china-cost-too-much brand DVD player that will last you a few months for extreme cheapness (30 bucks or less).

And as far as I know you can't turn a HDMI signal to S-video, since HDMI is a digital signal, and S-video is analog. You would need some kind of D/A converter which will make the price of the cord you want go up and in the end (after shipping costs), you would pay as much as it would have cost you for the cheap DVD player.

Get a cheap player that can do DivX or XviD for about $50 and you'll be able to play downloaded vids too. Check out the list over at videohelp.com for more info on which one.
