    Looking to buy one.

Other than Monster cables, which other ones are good? Trying not to speend more than $50 on one. More around the 30$ range.

take a look around www.newegg.com you don't have to buy a really expensive one to get good quality stuff, the cheaper ones work just as well.

One thing to consider is that DVI does not carry Sound, and DVI is not HDCP compatable.

Why in the hell do you want to throw away $30 or $50 on a DVI-HDMI cable?? I think maybe you don't know very much about cables.

If you're using an analog transport, you need to spend $$$ on high quality shielded cables to get a good signal. With digital cables, it doesn't matter (unless you're talking really long lengths).

Would you spend $30 or $50 on a 6' USB cable? Sounds stupid doesn't it? There's no performance or quality difference between a $5 USB cable and a $50 USB cable. They both work just the same. DVI-HDMI is no exception.

I paid $7 for my DVI-HDMI cable from newegg. Drives my 20" LCD 1680x1050 perfectly.

Is there a difference in quality between VGA and DVI with the same source and same monitor? I'm not sure whether to rule out a laptop if it doesn't have DVI or HDMI.

No, you won't be able to tell the difference at all. Almost all monitors have VGA in, and both support HD resolutions.

Whether or not a laptop have DVI out should be more on the bottom of the list when choosing a laptop. You can always buy a VGA to DVI-A adapter is needed.

They do make DVI+SPDIF boxes that convert the signal to HDMI. Just FYI. It may be something to look into for your needs.

Cool, that's good news. I've wondered why they made a DVI in the first place if you can't see the difference. BTW, nice rig, WuJen!
