    Hi

I need help on choosing a proper gaming headset/headphones, it will be used mainly to play pc video games like far cry, crysis on my laptop and the odd music and movie too. I dont really want to spend like £100 on headphones which seem to be the price for proper headphones. I dont really care if it has a mic or not, but they would have to be closed so people around me couldnt hear it.

Ive been looking at these cheap sennheiser ones, they have alot of good reviews but im not sure:

Audio-Technica ATH-M30's. Really good for the money! They kind of blow the HD 201's out the water because it is also good at keep sound quality when doing audio recording and it has a richer mid and bass than the HD 201. However, the HD 201 is not bad at all if you want a decent set of headphones for general gaming. I don't tend to like actual headsets because I can't find myself using them with devices away from my computer so I tend to tweak my laptop stereo microphone array to be very good and use actual headphones instead.

    I second this.

It also comes with a 5* warranty service, where replacements are xpressposted to you with no charge.

I recommend the Razer Megladon, it has 7.1 surround sound and dedicated remote to control the settings, it is by Razer too which means you are getting the best for your gaming.

I have used quite a few different gaming headsets but, the best resource I found to get an impartial view on them can be found at Gaming Headset, they are constantly adding new headset reviews.

I'd recommend a headset from SteelSeries. I've used headsets from several different brands and all of them have left me with a buzzing right of left ear or I have to put the cord in a specific spot to get full sound. They always die a short while later. However my SteelSeries headphones have taken a beating and even had the cord and volume control run over by my chair several times and they sound good as new. Not to mention they're extremely comfortable and have excellent audio quality.

If you need a more portable headset I can recommend 3 by them.

SteelSeries 7H USB: Modular design comes apart into 4 pieces (L/R ear/head piece/cord) as well as 7.1 virtual surround through the sound card and interchangeable pleather/cloth ear cups. Microphone retracts into the headset. Some might find these a little pricey.

SteelSeries 5H V2 USB: Similar to the 7H except it comes apart into 3 pieces (Cord is always connected). Cloth ear cups. Mid-High price now that the 7H is out.

SteelSeries Siberia Neckband: Simple around the head design. Large cloth ear cups for added comfort. Retractable microphone. Mid-High price depending on opinion.

Hope this helps. Yes I'm big on SteelSeries, but this is from my own personal experience.

I second the recommendation for the Plantronics GameCom 777, or if you don't need virtual 7.1, the GameCom 377.
