Hi.
I saw a notebook cooler, it`s just a aluminium plate with vents on it, for your laptop to sit on, no fans.
My laptop runs really cool, but after a few hours, the wooden table heats up and wood is one of the worst conductors of heat.
As the notebook has a gap only 2-3 above the tabel the wood underneath gets hot and the notebook fans are pulling in already hot air.
Does anybody know the cooler i am talking about, I am looking for a 12" version.
Thanks
John.

Hi.
the aluminium plate will make the air a lot cooler, as opposed to just making the gap between the table and the notebook wider.

Have you tried to lift your laptop 1 cm? This should already do what you're searching for.
If you need something professional for this then get a passive cooler like the X-Pad
And if you want a senseless heatsink below your notebook then better get a large normal heatsink. But I don't really think that this helps because:
Your PC heats up the heatsink below the notebook, so it is as hot as your desk before, but now the air which gets pulled in is not only slightly warm, heated by the desk, but much warmer, heated by the heatsink below your notebook. So much hotter air gets in your notebook than before. Don't think that this is great. Such a heatsink makes more sense for me, when your laptop pulls out the air on the desk, but your notebook pulls it in from the desk.
Best is to lift the notebook, but maybe even this does not really help. -

Hi.
aluminium dissipates heat really well, and actually cools any air passing by it, and will stay cool.

i've never had an personal experiences with the aluminum cool pads. i did do alot of research cuz i was lookin around for a nice passive cooler. i read that alot of people were complainin about their passive aluminum pads heatin up after very long uses periods. it got so hot where it would uncomfortable or produce mild burns.
i opted for the targus x-stand. pretty simple piece of hardware that simply works well. the x-stand has extendable legs to fit different sized laptops (up to 17") and was a breeze to set up. it also folds up to the size of about 2 sharpies. -
Balancing your laptop between two books works too or simply elevating the back so that air can flow underneath.
