Hi all I'll be living in college apartment in a few weeks, and I just got a audigy 2 zs notebook, so now its the time to pick the best 5.1 speaker that suits me. (for music and games)

I have my eyes on logitech x-530 and z-5300e, but after reading alot reviews I'm not sure if they are right for me. I dont like heavy bass, or loud music. I don't listen to rock/heavy metal/rap much, most time just R&B, pop, and some classical. I dont want to bother my roommates next room with loud music that shakes apartment

I'm not audiophile :D so those fancy expensive 5.1 set definately doesnt suit me. Im looking to spend around $100 for those.

my other options: pick a cheap 5.1 speakers and a good headphone (maybe SENNHEISER HD 280Pro)

1 last thing, I also want an affordable headphone/headset for games and music, thinking Icemat Siberia / sennheiser pc 150 or 160 / sennheiser hd 280 pro? suggestions please :D

    thanks,
    vehence

I think a 2.1 would be more practical for the dorm room environment. Specially if you'll just be doing games and listening to MP3's. Headphones even more practical than that. Of course, I don't know anything about any of those. So, you're welcome for this worthless post. 8)

    thanks :)

if I were to live in a dorm I'd get a 2.0 or 2.1, but I'll be living in apartment, with 1 room of my own (small tho)

since I just got audigy 2 zs sound card, I want a 5.1 speaker to make good use of the card :p

BTW, 90% of my music is in mp3 format, so I just need a system that use the potential of audigy 2zs, play well on low quality mp3 format.

    thanks

Personally, I love my z5300e system. I was worried about it being too bassy too after reading some reviews, but you can turn up and down the bass as you like it or just sub. You also have controls for the fader, center, and overall volume right with the controller. I got mine for $105 shipped refurbished.

Yeah you can turn the bass down. Or go with headphones.

If you do that, forget the Sennheisers ;) Get the Audio-Technica ATH-A500. $106 shipped from www.audiocubes.com directly from Japan, or $150 from amazon shipped from a US retailer. I got mine from audiocubes, took about a week.

Overall, they're better than the Sennheiser. They're more balanced, have a nice BIG soundstage which is perfect for gaming and movies, and they're easy to drive. So you can drive them directly out of an MP3 player or whatever. They're great all around headphones. Mostly recommended to those who want something that is great "all around", or those looking for something to watch movies or play games with. They're definitely awesome for movies. Watch an action movie with a lot of explosions and you'll see what I mean ;)

As I said, they're good for gaming. Great big soundstage and they can go as high or low as the game sound effects demand. Don't worry, for music, they won't provide an overbearing amount of bass. They're actually quite neutral and generally don't color the sound (like add bass). If a song has deep bass, they'll put out deep bass. If it doesn't, they won't artificially add it. You know? I'd recommend them over any speakers any day.
