I have just ordered some usb speakers for my laptop, and am waiting for the to be delivered.

the only connection it has is an usb plug, it has an built in amplifier that draws power from the usb port.

my question is does it use my laptops soundcard or is it totally separate.

will i still get an audio icon on my taskbar and how will i adjust the audio properties.

    thanks for any help.

    John.

USB speakers will not directly use your laptop soundcard.

You will have the possibility of adjusting the audio properties as before.

    Which speakers did you get?

I recently purchased a set of Altec Lansings XT2 that I like very much for their portability and sound only lacking in the bass department (can't have small, portable and plenty of bass at the same time)

basically the USB speakers will behave like a secondary soundcard for your computer. I don't know exactly how windows handles it (I use Linux,) but I have a Silverstone EB-01 DAC that works extremely well, and it just appears as another sound device.

I have a USB sound card that is plug and play, except when I plug it in then I have to close the application that I want to use and reopen it with the USB sound card plugged in so it will use that instead of the onboard sound card. I think its pretty nice personally, good sound quality where ever I go.

I wish laptop bios had more option, i would like to turn of the built in audio, also the LAN port as i dont use it.

I have a phonix bios by the way, is their a hidden menu or a windows util to enable and disable stuff.

    thanks.
