It depends on what outputs your laptop has. If you have an SVideo out connection, then you can just by an svideo cable (assuming your tv has svideo input). If your TV does not have an S Video input, you can buy an SVideo to RCA adapter from your local radioshack. You can then run the RCA yellow video cable to the RCA input. Thus, only one cable would need to be connected to the input on your tv. If you also want audio, you would need to get a RCA to headphone cable again from Radioshack.

If you dont have SVideo output on your laptop, then your only other choice is to go digital, but this would require that your tv have digital inputs as well.

    Good Luck

HDMI, VGA, and DVI provide the best picture

    Hi,

Does your TV have a DVI input? If so, all you would need is a DVI cable. If your TV only has an HDMI input an no other analog or digital input, you may have to resort to purchasing a converter box which is still quite expensive. Others - feel free to chime in...

All you need is a DVI to HDMI cable. DVI doesn't need to be converted into HDMI. DVI is HDMI without the sound.

nah just wondering... is there any way to combine sound with dvi video so that both were sent to the hdmi-in of the tv?

Unfortunately, I dont think that is possible since DVI is strictly video whereas HDMI combines video and audio. Your best bet would be to use the standard headphone out and connect it to your surround sound system or via analog audio on your TV.

that would give two cables... and worse audio, not to mention all the settings changing in the tv :D

there's no "signal joiner"? i know that hdmi is all about av while dvi is only for v, but then, there are dvi to hdmi converters for just video as well as hdmi to dvi ones... i was wondring if using the spdif digital electrical out + dvi output and some magical box would yield possibility to send everything through the hdmi cable to the tv.

yes i know i can use external amplituners etc. but i have none, just the 32" lcd tv with 3 hdmi ins :D no dsub/dvi port :D and i believe that having 3 hdmi ports should be used somehow, and i can't see just by a quick glance of many analog ports :D
