I have previously owned sony EX71's, Sony NX1's, v-moda bass freq's, sennheizer CX300's. CX300-II's, and currently own a pair of sony EX300's. So this means so far i've only spent about 15-25 pounds on a pair of earphones, and i think these have been pretty decent. I listen to a wide variety of music, but mostly stuff from the 80's, Yanni, Andrea Bocelli, and trance/dance music from time to time.
I've been thinking of investing in a more expensive pair, to see if it make a difference, so i reckon i could spare 50 pounds, or if there is really something exceptional i can stretch to 70 pounds.
if i can get headphones of much better quality for the price i wouldnt mind getting those instead.
im not really looking for super neutral monitors, as i dont do any professional mixing, so something that would suit the kind of music i listen to (i do enjoy a bit of bass bias) would be great.
im also curious about headphones/earphones that have more than one driver.
thanks in advance

Get the Kipsch Image S4! They are WAY WAY better than anything else in that price range.
You can find open-box ones on ebay for well within your budget. -
i have heard good things about them, but how do they compare to the sony's i have? if they are not noticably better then it might not be worth it.
-
Running Klipsch S4i and I love them, they have more bass than I thought is possible from earphones.
-
I have the Klipsch 4i, the sound is good (wish it was louder), stays in the ear very well (for me anyways) and I like that it can take a beating (just wrap it up and put it in your jean pocket)
-
Hahaha i wasn't looking for earphones but reading through this thread had persuaded me to replace my Sennheiser CX 300 and JVC HAFX1X Xtreme Xplosives with the Klipsch.
Is the 4i simply the additional mic and 3 button remote? -
does the 4i have a Y cord? i cant stand Y cords, i prefer the U style that goes around the neck....also, my sony's have a 13.5mm driver vs the 8.5mm driver in the klipsch. It might be a downgrade?

You might be able to get a set of Sennheiser CX550 style ii's for that price, or better yet, a pair of Sennheiser CX870's. They are great headphones. I had a pair of CX550sii's for about a year, and they were great. Very clear, sounded authentic (though they didn't have much of a punch. Not flat, but don't expect your head to start shaking from the bass).
The only reason i stopped using them is because I decided I hated in-ear earphones and decided to get a pair of Audio technica ATH-ES55s (great headphones btw). -
As for Sennheiser, if you do decide to buy their earphones, stick with retailers mentioned on sennheiser website, there is so many fakes out there it's scary.
I would strongly advise to not buy Sennheiser on ebay, it's sad but the marked is floded with fakes, and ebay where I get most of my stuff is no go when it comes to this company anymore. -

The Klipsch 4's are nice, another to look at are the Hippo V B, which i prefer between the two but both are good.
As far as dual balanced armature IEMs, Brainwaves B2, Jays q-Jays, Audio Technica ATH-CK10, Ultimate Ears UE700, or the Fischer Audio DBA-02 are all quality phones. Most of these are over $200.
Ultimate Ears UE700 are less then $180 @ Amazon
Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 are triple armature and a heck of a deal on amazon right now @ less then $160 -
sennheiser cx300 fake vs genuine cable split -
yes i JUST saw the ultimate ears deal, and am seriously considering buying it. has anyone whos used them before tell me if the bass is good on these? trance music generally does well with earphones that have clear treble, but also a fair bit of rumbly punch at the low range
is there a replacement cable available in the "round the neck" style for the UE's? -

What are some good places to buy the S4s? Is eBay flooded with fakes like Sennheisers or am i safe buying them from eBay? I cannot find any store that sells them here in New Zealand and if they did it would probably be overpriced and in the $150 area. My Sennheiser CX-300 II were $70. That's is the last time I'm buying electronics in New Zealand.
-
I have not heard anything about fake Klipsch S4's so I think ebay is a safe bet.
-
Hmmmm a quick google search and quite a few results came back with fake S4's like here: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/149556.aspx
Find some shops here in New Zealand that sells them. But it's $200.... -

Amazon is a great place to find S4's if not on Ebay. They have great seller protection in case you run across fake ones.
