Hello,
Am i able to create folders in my ipod classic? I have two music folders on my computer, one for mainstream music and one for dance. Is it possible to have two folders on my ipod as well?
-
not that i know of, but an option is to use the genre menu option instead. if all your dance is catigorised under electronic/dance then when you go to genre it will all be saved in there. everything that isnt dance will be saved under the other genres.
hope that helps -
You could also just create two playlists, and drag all the music from the mainstream folder into a mainstream playlist, and all your dance folder music into a dance playlist. That way you don't have to muck around with editing genres of each track.
-
how do i transfer it to my ipod then once i'm done creating playlists? i've already transferred all my files but this was before i created playlists. do i need to delete them?
-
If your iPod is set to automatically sync, then that's it - it will transfer the playlist to the iPod on its own. If you have it set to manual, then just click and drag the playlist to the iPod in iTunes.
-
i've set it manually i think. what bout the files that are already on the ipod?
-
It will not delete any files already on the iPod, nor will it transfer any duplicate songs.
-
will the ones that are already on the ipod be sorted by the playlists i just created?
-
Yes, if the songs are already present on your iPod they will just be sorted into the playlist. If the songs are not there, then they will transfer and be placed into your playlist.

thanks mastershroom, appreciate it. so the next time i add new files to my folders, will it be automatically updated in itunes as well?
-
If you have your iPod set to manually update, then you will have to manually click + drag the new files onto the iPod in iTunes.
If you set it to automatically update, though, then it will add any new files to your iPod and its playlists, every time you plug it in. -
what bout in itunes? will new tracks added into my folders on my computer be updated in itunes as well?
-
Bin, you really need to visit & register here.

the problem with playlists is it only shows one long list of songs. it does not separate them by artist, album etc.
by doing it be genre you can still select 1 artist, then 1 album by that artist.
doingthis way does not involve "mucking around with editing genres of each track." generally, if an artist is a dance music artist, you can just select everything by that artist using shift-click, then use control-shift-click to select the next artist. however itunes will generally clump dance music into a set of about 4 genres, all named something similar. sort by genre, then scroll down to the electronic, electronica/dance, (right next to each other). select everything in these 2 catagories and right click. go to the bottom of the pop up screen that appears and click the drop down arrow. select one of these catergories. click ok.
now go to the trance and techno area of your library (probably right next to each other, or pretty close) and do the same. change it to EXACTLY the same genre. sorted. takes maybe 2 minutes.
to answer your latest question, if you are importing songs into itunes, using itunes (such as a CD import) ten yes, they will automaticly be added to the itunes library. however, if you are downloading music to a folder on your computer, you will need to import this music manually.
go to file > import folder. navigate to the location the music was downloaded to, and click the new albums folder (do not open it by double clicking, just select), then click import.
if it has downloaded just the track and is NOT in its own folder use the file>import file command instead. you can use the shift-click or the control click to select multiple files.
hope that helps.
