What is the best in-earphones for the ipod touch for under $100 AUD?
I just bought an ipod touch replacing my sony A-808 and the sound quality on the ipod touch compared to the sony is about one million times worse.
Any recommendations for the best sounding earphones for under $100 AUD shipped?

Well if youre phones jailbroken, then you can download volume hacks for it that greatly increse the volume. I like the ear phones provided but thats just because of the mic.

I'm currently using the Sennheier CX300 headphones, they're really good for volume level and noise isolation.
I noticed they now have a CX500 which would probably be better... -
I use skullcandy but they are like 50-60 bucks in the US. Its up to you.

MylarOne XB cant be beat for the price - $65
Plenty of good praise over at head-fi.org -
I have a look at the MylarOne XB. Not sure that they will sound great in the ipod touch. After having the touch for a few days, the only flaw that the ipod touch has is the audio chip that they use. Its far behind all manufacturers and i have to say that the sound quality is up there with cheap mp3 players from china.
Currently using Creative ep-630 but they seem to sound not so great. Anyone had experience with the shure e2c and the ipod touch? -
Cx300's are nice, MylarOne's are nice, but only for a few months then they wear out. If I'm not mistaken then I believe the itouch has some 'special-ness' to it. Because the headphone port is sunk into the player a bit making so some headphones wont work without an adapter, which is lame. So what it comes down to.. get rid of the ipod and get a cowon, which would justify some real headphones. Shure SE530's are nice, or some Q-jays, or some Atrio M5/M8's.

Try listening with the same earphones you were using with the Sony. If the sound is still a million times worse, then I'm guessing it probably won't be fixable by getting new earphones.

CX300 isn't well liked in Head-Fi, AFIAK. Also, for Shure, go for SE210 or above - SE110 is sub-par for its price.
Otherwise, I can only list the usual suspects here..
Etymotic ER-6i
UE SuperFi 3
Denon AH-C551K
Audio-Technica ATh-Ck7
I use ATH-CK7 with UE tip myself (for my Cowon), but yeah, probably you want to get rid of iPod touch and get Sony or Cowon... -
SE210s are great bang for the buck! in the shure line they are regarded like the Vostro 1500 amazing performance and and quality for the price. avoid the se110 they are not worth it IMO and if you decide to spend more avoid the se320s they are the same as the 210 to most users

Using Sony MDR-EX90 LP and absolutely love them. Great sound quality across the range handling everything from jazz, pop, rock, metal, classical etc, leather pouch and they don't suffer from the cord degradation of the 71's. They run a Y-shaped neck cord which I find useful although you can get standard v-type. They are certainly the most comfortable canal-style phones i've used although you may want to check out some google images of them being worn as they do look like Frankensteins bolts. I paid €100 ($162 AUD) early on and would do it again in a heartbeat. You can get them alot cheaper now.

but Sennheiser easily blows the competition away.. -
especially 5th gen Video iPods were best in Sound quality. -
I sold my ipod touch to my brother and am waiting to see if sony will release a new mp3 player to compete against the touch. Anyone if this is going to happen?
I had a pair of sony ex-82 with my sony and they were great. I am looking at the Sony ex90LP cause they cost about $120 AUD imported from Japan. -

i've also heard that the ipod touch is the best sounding ipod ever...and having owned only a 3rd generation (i think) ipod mini, the sound was better definitely....but the ipod standard issue earphones are trash..i use a pair of sennheiser mx500's which are pretty good...bought em for Singapore $40.. theyve got a volume slider on the cable which i find extremely useful as the touch doesnt have hardware buttons to control volume if its in ur pocket and u dont wanna pull it out..of course if u spend more, u'll get much better sounding ones...and i personally find the included sponge 'buds' that come with all these earphones make a noticable difference not only to the comfort but to the sound. the earphone fits more snug in ur ear and the bass tends to sound better this way...

Ear buds are a joke from me, aside from them not sounding as good, I can never get them to stay in my ears. The itouch has awful sound quality, thats all there is to it, so if its better than some of the other ipoo's then apple just needs to get their act together and build something worth buying.

IMO the iPod Touch is worth buying... just not for music.
It's a great pocketable video player, web browser, and PDA.
But if you're buying it mainly for music, there are plenty of more compact and apparently better-sounding devices at a much lower price for the same capacity. -
If your using it for that other stuff just get a PSP and then hack it. That way you can play games too. Apple sells their players because of GOOD marketing, not because their product is better, or even on par with other companies stuff.

ATH-CK7 is good choice.
