To cut right to the chase I'm debating if I should return the Logitech Performance MX mouse I just bought and wait for the Logitech G700? I'll defintely be gaming with it (no MMO's for now) but also just basic web browsing/ uni work. I like the look of the MX better but I wonder if the tech in the G700 is alot better? Lots of buttons are intriguing too.

I don't think G700 is using darkfield & unifying receiver,
but it has higher dpi, polling rate, and more buttons, macro & profiles

    If I have to choose, I'd pick G700 :D

Crap that's what I was expecting. I guess since i got the logitech k350 keyboard I'm just gonna stick with the unifying receiver gear. Plus shipping it back is such a hassle. I think the performance MX mouse should do me fine in gaming too (haven't been able to try it yet)

yeah it should be good enough in gaming since it's the successor of MX Revo/MX1100 (or between the two)

I do not think it is darkfield. But it does use the unifying receiver. You are right on everything else too - higher DPI, polling rate, more buttons, etc. It also has a battery that is rechargeable via micro USB cable.

It's basically the Performance MX on steroids.

Seems that G700 is like MX950 on steroid, basically around the same design, with much better specs. I do wonder about the price though, since MX950 (AKA performance MX) is already one of the most expensive mouse on the market.

Ok, 99 bucks, about same price as performance MX, meaning performance MX will probably get a price drop soon. There is still the difference of the metallic strip on the performance MX though which does make it look nicer.

Wait, i was under the impression that the Performance MX can be recharged through the micro-USB cable, even while in use. Can someone confirm this, because I'm currently browsing for a new mouse to compliment my new MBP and the Performance MX is my top choice at the moment?

Yes, that is correct. Both the Logitech Performance MX and the Logitech G700 mice can be recharged through the micro-USB cable, even while the mouse is in use.

yes, it can be recharged through the micro-USB cable, even while in use. :)

And I still think G700 doesn;t use unifying receiver. it's nano receiver, but not unifying

Ah, yes, crayonyes is correct. The wireless receiver on the G700 is not unifying. It is the same shape and size of the nano receivers, but it can only connect to the G700 mouse.

So far, it looks like the difference between the mice are:

    Logitech Performance MX:
+ Darkfield optical sensor (allows mousing on any surface)
+ Unifying receiver. Allows multiple Logitech devices to connect to the same receiver.
+ Buttons intended for desktop productivity (e.g. fast window switching, zoom).

    Logitech G500:
+ Higher DPI on the mouse
+ Higher polling rate on the USB interface.
+ More buttons, intended for gaming purposes.
+ Stores macro and settings using onboard memory
+ Allows both data and charging over the USB cable - can be used as wired mouse if needed.

Can anyone think of anything else?

Maybe a slight aesthetic edge to the MX for the chrome strip/ texture. Looks really nice IMO. Haven't tried the G700 technically I guess though.

    @kent1146
Well I'd add that the MX can also be used as wired if needed to that list.

I gotta agree, the MX has an edge as far as aesthetics are concerned. So the decision probably comes down to what you plan on using for. I do some casual MMO gaming so I do want something more than the standard mouse but I'm not really concerned with extreme DPI and polling rates since I don't play precision-reaction FPS games. The G700 has more buttons but I really only need about 2-3 more buttons because I like binding those "!" skills on my mouse for quick access. I'm also concerned with vanity and I can't pass up the look of the MX. So if you can fit into all these user categories then I think the MX is the mouse for you. I'm on my way to buy one right now so I'll report on this thread about my experiences with it.

The cable for the Performance MX only delivers power. Unlike the G700, the USB cable does not deliver any data. That means that you can use the Performance MX while it's plugged in and charging. But all data to/from the PC is going to be via the wireless receiver.

The only situation where this would actually make a difference is if you were in some place that had a lot of interference on the 2.4Ghz spectrum. This could be from things like a microwave, or at a LAN party where there may be a lot of 2.4Ghz WiFi signals going around, or multiple people with wireless mice that use 2.4Ghz.

a lot of people underestimate extra buttons,

but in real life activity, they're really handy and can boost productivity.
not to mention you can stored different settings for different profiles.

I can imagine myself opening NBR on 1 click, despite whether I'm on windows' desktop or not. LOL

Actually, even for performance mx, I never even make use of all the buttons, so nope, I definitely won't need more of them. However, the main attraction of the G700 to me is the much improved DPI, 1500 DPI of performance mx is a little bit low for me. I guess the different nano receiver is because the G700 requires much higher wireless performance the uni-receiver can't provide.

well performanceMX can't use macro so the functionality is more limited.
however it's a waste if you don't use them, they're there for a reason :D

I've been using the Performance MX on my MBP both in OS X and Win7 for two days now and I'm loving it. It took me a bit to get used to the shape as I had been using a normal MS mouse before this one. I've used it to play Aion and even after a few hours, my hand didn't hurt one bit or anything like that. Bottom line, it's very comfortable and more precise than your average stock mouse. If it suits your needs, then keep it.

Ya I'm gonna keep the MX. My laptop will be arriving in a few days and I don't wanna wait 2+ weeks for the G700. My setup will be complete when the computer arrives, the way it should be. Thanks for all the input though guys. Feel free to keep discussing by all means :)
