just got the logitech v270 from compusa yesterday and so far i really like it. it feels exactly like the v200 mouse so people who didn't like that mouse won't like this one. i didn't mind how the v200 felt so i'm pretty happy with the v270. my issue with previous bluetooth mice that i have tried has been tracking. i do a lot of CAD/3D modeling work so i need an accurate mouse. so far, the v270 seems to be remarkably accurate. paired up with my thinkpad no problem and seems to track very nice. comes with a nice soft case and no usb dongle to worry about. all in all a very nice, portable travel mouse.

I've had the v270 for about a week now and am having some problems. Love the looks/size of the mouse. The silver one goes great with my Mac PowerBook. Not so happy with the performance though. It goes through "phases" where it really lags behind and gets jumpy as I move it around. Almost as though the signal can't keep up with my movements. Also, if I let it sit for abour 20 seconds or so and then go to move it, it takes a second for it to "wake up" and for the cursur to start moving. I can live with that though as I'm sure that's a battery saving funtion. But the jumpiness/laggin behind, I can't.

I've never used a wireless mouse (bluetooth or rf) before so I'm not sure if any of this is somewhat normal or why this is happening but I'm afraid I might be going back to a wired one $50 in the hole. Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated?

I've been reading Bluetooth mouse reviews and both of these are common complaints. Bluetooth mice do go to sleep after a period of inactivity and there is a wake delay generally described as "about a second." As you suspected this is a battery conservation strategy.

The other problem, that of lag, seems not to bother some people, but those who do more finicky mouse-work (especially gaming, but also photo editing and the like) are really hampered.

I've spent a little time hunting around for that one magic Bluetooth mouse which eliminates the lag problem, but I have yet to find one where no one raises this complaint online. The v270 was my current hope but your post quashes it, kaulbr.

Let us know if any of you are aware of a mouse free from this problem.

suggestion: normal v200 doesn't have that problem, and the wireless dongle isn't that big, and fits inside the mouse.

True, but just to be clear the v200 is not a Bluetooth device. It uses a [proprietary?] 2.4GHz radio and dongle. If you don't have built-in Bluetooth then you'll probably need to add a dongle anyway and maybe a non-Bluetooth wireless mouse is a better option, especially if these outperform Bluetooth mice. But those whose notebooks have internal Bluetooth transceivers might find it annoying having to go back to a dongle.

I'll keep looking for a better bluetooth as I have a bluetooth enabled PowerBook. Maybe the might mouse (when it's available in Bluetooth) might be a savior. They work for PCs too. Will keep you all posted if it works any better once it comes out. In the mean time, if anyone finds a good one, keep me posted.

Following up (and crossposting from here because it's relevant and I think kaulbr at least might be interested) I just ran across a pretty good review of Thermaltake's Bluetooth mouse. I can't vouch for this product personally, but it's something to be aware of at least.

I just started to use the V270 yesterday, and I think I like it. There doesn't seem to be any lag (not counting startup, which I haven't really noticed). My only hesitation is that I'm not used to the pointer options (e.g., speed) being tied to the touchpad. The mouse is much faster than the touchpad; if you adjust, it's hard to find a good compromise. Is there a way around that?

Related to this, I could not get the Logitech software to install. It said there was a problem with my bluetooth stacks. I uninstalled the Dell bluetooth software and reinstalled the latest version from the web, but still no luck. The mouse works, but I guess it may not be "fully" functional (though the buttons work for the usual stuff).

I've heard you can install "better" bluetooth stacks such as Microsoft's or Widcomm, but I'm not sure if I really feel like it. :p Anyway, that issue is for a different part of this forum.

I don't know whether this will help, but the V270's requirements include "Broadcom/Widcomm Bluetooth BTW 1.4.2.21 or above."

Thanks, Songdog. I'll check to see if my Dell/Toshiba BT software is up to snuff. Even if it (supposedly) is, I may torpedo it for another vendor. I've read enough on the forums to justify a switch.

How well does the V270 work on a PC with Microsoft's Bluetooth drivers? I had a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and the refresh was horrible (as evidenced by reviews, which showed the mouse to work at ~50hz).

Is the refresh comparable to a Microsoft Optical Mouse (standard $20 3-button)?

I recently got the V270 to use with my Sony Vaio S580. In my case I have the Toshiba Bluetooth drivers, and the mouse feels fine, with no annoying lag. I haven't tried gaming yet though, and it's still too soon to report about battery life.

Edited to add: I do have one annoyance, which I've just posted about over here.

I recently received my v270 as well. Overall it's fairly good, and it looks great with my Inspiron 6000. It's too bad that they didn't include the tilt side scrolling wheel like on the v200.

The bluetooth wakeup lag is a bit annoying though. I mean, why on earth does it go into sleep mode after three seconds of inactivity? If this could be adjusted to maybe 10 or 20 seconds, that'd be much more tolerable, I think.

I'm pretty happy that I just found out that with logitech's setpoint software, you can independently set the speed of the touchpad and the mouse without one affecting the other (I think). That's a big bonus, because this is a pretty sensitive mouse, and I have a very high resolution screen and need some particular settings for it to be comfortable.

The other thing I'm not sure I like about the mouse is that it's a little large... the v500 is nice and flat, so the shape of that one looks better for stowing in your slim laptop bag. But it is nice not to have to plug anything in to have a mouse with your laptop.

Just flick on the switch and go. Logitech's bluetooth software makes it a snap to setup, although it was pretty easy to get working with Microsoft's bluetooth software. (I trashed dell's as soon as I could... it's not that great).

Have an Inspiron 6000 and just got V270 too. Can't install it - how did you change the Dell software? For which did you change? Thanks.

I went to Circuit City two days ago, to check out the v400. They showed it on line, and online, it said you could pick it up at the store. When I got to CC, they didn't have any in stock.

I went ahead and picked up the v200, figuring I had 30 days to return it, if I didn't like it.

Well, I really like it so far! No jumpyness, doesn't turn off, as far as I can tell, it works very well. Works better then my wifes mouse which came with her Mac. I have trouble sometimes with the Mac mouse (wired) where, I"ll accidenty tap it, and it brings up widgets, which wasn't what I wanted.

Anyways, the v200 works great. Not sure what features it lacks compared to the v400.

Also comes in black (my choice), candy apple red, and some other colors I can't recall at the moment.

So, based on reviews, which is better? the V200 or the V270? Not including that one is bluetooth and one is not. I would like to get a wireless mouse and I only have 3 USB ports, I would rather get a bluetooth mouse. I play FPS games a lot, so would the Logitech V270 be a good choice? My computer has a broadcom 2045 bluetooth module.

Well no one helped me out, so I went ahead and bought a V270 refurbished for half the price. Not sure if I like it or not, the sensitivity is something I will definitely have to get used to. Had to update my broadcom bluetooth stack to use it properly, the windows stack was garbage for this mouse.

Definiitely get the logitech setpoint software, it fixes alot of issues you may run into when trying to get this mouse to play nice with your computer. All in all, after a bit of a getting-used-to curve, this mouse is pretty snazzy.
