I need a bag to carry my XPS M1730 laptop around. It's a very big 17" laptop, so the bag will have to accomodate that. I'm not bothered about the type of bag, but I'd like it to be quite a good one. As far as budget goes, the cheaper the better, but no more than £100.
    Thanks :)

I don't have a specific recommendation, but when I had a bigger notebook, a backpack worked for me.

A backpack would be fine, but I was looking for something that would fit my laptop more snugly.

I've reviewed a number of higher end laptop bags but most of them are unfortunately outside the price cap you've set. However, Spire USA makes a series of very nice backpacks that are designed to hold heavy 17" laptops along with the usual mix of books, papers, etc. In particular, their Torq model is well worth the money and includes a dedicated laptop protection sleeve. They're still a bit pricey, and shipping to the UK may be an issue, but check them out if you're looking for a bulletproof backpack that will hold a large laptop without feeling like you have a lead weight on your back.

Do you want a should bag? Also always good to get a bag that is slightly larger and sleeve try a 17.3, i have a 18.4 sleeve from rosewill, but it won't fit in my 17 inch targus bag.

I can confirm that the M1730 will fit (snugly) in an XL backpack. Do not get a shoulder bag. I tried carrying it once for an extended day, and I had to stagger crabwise for most of the day.

I have something like this for when I need a backpack. For more professional type work I used this to get around. Both bags allowed me to carry a vostro 1700 (same exact chassis as the xps1730), a 12in laptop and all the gear I needed. Personally if business professionalism isnt a concern then go for a backpack as they store more and are easier on your back.

No the XPSM1730 is waaaaaay thicker. Similar style, just thicker. Inspiron 1720 chassis = Vostro 1700 but with different materials. Their chassis are far from similar...

    See for yourself.

Are you going to be carrying the charger around too? With that big charger I'd definitely go with a back pack.

I bought this bag for my Dell studio 1737. Its very nice quality for the price, and there are other colors available if you dont want the professional leather look.
