I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good company to insure a laptop for me. It is 2 year old 3.0GHz P4. It will be spending a lot of the next few months very near the ocean and if were to get wet I would like to be covered. Thanks,
    Adam

How about a rider on your homeowners/renters insurance?

I kind of want a stand alone insurance for the computer if I can. Something like this. http://www.safeware.com/

    Thanks,

isn't 2 years kinda old to insure? The data is valuable, but the hardware itself can probably be purchased pretty cheap nowadays so I think buying insurance might cost more in the long run than just getting a new notebook.

Ya that is what I am thinking. But this is actually for my sister and she is going to be using on the beach a lot over the next few months for a field school and wants to insure it.

I'm no insurance guy... but if she is purposely bringing it to the beach (that is, knowingly exposing it to adverse elements), I'm not sure insurance would cover it if she got sand or water in it...

No warranty? Well you could always try what zaz recommended. It is old hardware though it could be easily replaced

Personally I'd go for getting a good data backup solution instead.

Also as someone else pointed out you'd need to make sure the insurance company was aware (and had it written down) that it was being taken down the beach every day otherwise it would probably be considered your fault if it got sand/water in it.
