I am using an INSPIRATION 1525 lap top with a 7 pin s-video output.

My TV has a 4 pin s-video input and 3 RCA female inputs, red(Left Audio), white(Right Audio) and yellow(Video).

Is there a cable that I can buy that will convert the video and audio signals from my PC to my TV.

    Thanks - [email protected]

This cable does Video via S-Video and Audio via Headphone jack, out to RCA cables.

This one is only $11 with free shipping, it looks like.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the quick reply.

Does the $11 cable pass both video and audio without another cable hooked up to the headphone/speaker out on the laptop?

The S-Video cable piece does the video, and the audio is done via the headphone jack. I believe they made it all into one cable, so on one end you have the S-Video cable and the headphone jack, and on the other end you have the 3 RCA (red, white, yellow). I do not have this cable in person as I have HDMI out on my notebook, but I have used Headphone-to-RCA (red, white) before so I could pass the audio through my surround sound receiver.

I'd say for $11 its worth checking out :)

    I get it.
Don't need the 4 pin s-video on the TV as the three output RCA cables that have been converted from the PC's 7 s-video output pin will do the job.

Thanks for the help. - Herb

The s-video port on tv has better quality than the rca, sorry I didn't saw this earlier, actually all you needed to do the video part was a plain s-video

Most CRT's do not have HDMI ports, thats probably why the person told you you needed one since HDMI is the most conventional way of connecting your laptop to your TV. Thats not true though, look at the posts above.

No, thats completely false. you can connect to a normal TV directly through S-Video or using a S-Video to Composite cable. Even if you don't have a S-Video output on your notebook, you can still connect over VGA. However, connecting a TV over VGA using a simple converter cable can sometimes be a little tricky (unless you have a newer CRT TV), but there are special VGA to TV converter boxes that can convert a VGA output to a standard S-Video or composite signal (means you can connect to any TV).

But unfortunately maximum resolution you can get over S-Video is 720x576 (DVD quality). Text will be very hard to read, only good for videos.

I outputted my laptop on both HD TVs and standard ones. No problemo.
The only difference was resolution of course...

Hi PhoenixFx, I think I've almost similar system you have. I don't have S-video, I'm trying to connect to TV but no luck so far. .
    My sys config: XPS1330/T8300/4GB/250GB/ 128Nvidia/Wireless N/Bluetooth/ DVDRW/2MB-Cam

    * TV has 2 Pin (white/Yellow), I think they are called RCA pins. Don’t have HDMI port on TV.
    * XPS1330: Video card is 128MB NVideaCard and has a HDMI/VGA ports.
    (cable1): I’ve ordered a “VGA to S-video and 3RCA F Cable”
    (cable2): I’ve a 3(Yellow/Red/White) color cable - Male

    Trying to connect to XPS 1330's VGA port> (cable1)VGA to 3Pin-RCA(Yellow/White Pin)> (cable2) 3-cables bundle(Yellow/Red/White cable - Male > Plugged into White/Yellow Ports of TV>> press Fn+F8 but its no luck

I've posted it in dell as well,

I also didn’t have any luck with those VGA to S-Video cables. Have my doubts whether they work at all. Get one of these VGA to TV converter boxes instead, those will work.
